William Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2023.
William H. Murphy Jr. "Bill", passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, at his home in Louisville, KY. He was surrounded by his family and loving wife of 56-years, Susan. He was 80 years old.

Bill remained true to his roots and the neighborhood that he grew up in, never losing track of the people and the friends he made through the years. He always returned for a round of golf and a beer with friends long after he moved away.

He never slowed down and remained dedicated to his friends, family, and passions until his passing. He was an avid golfer, member of the Iroquois men's club, and remained an active member of St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church for over 45-years as an usher and a dedicated fish fryer where he became a part of their family.

He was extremely generous with his time, always selflessly lending a helping hand to volunteer for those who had a need. His volunteer work was multi-faceted - from driving veterans to their doctors' appointments at the VA Hospital, serving the homeless at the St Vincent de Paul soup kitchen, building homes for Habitat for Humanity and driving the elderly to weekly appointments - his kindness had no limits. He also proudly served his country as member of the Army during the Vietnam war.

While he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, his true love and dedication was with his family. He was the consummate family man and was always there in times of need. His children and grandchildren, including one great grand baby, had a special place in his heart; never saying no to any request that they made, and he never dared to miss a birthday, game or family function.

Bill and Susan are blessed with 5 children Theresa (Pat), Bill (Missy), Maureen (Heath), Brian (Amber), Dan (Teal), 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Helen and his brothers Patrick and Michael. He is also survived by his sister Judy (Dee) and brother Jerry.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church located at 1960 Bardstown Road at 10:30 am on July 14, with a celebration of life followed at the Elks Club located at 2824 Klondike Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the following: Hosparus, St Vincent de Paul soup kitchen and the Arbor Day Foundation and plant a tree in his memory.

Our neighborhood was given a genuine blessing when Bill and Sue moved here six or seven years ago and became our next door neighbors. We'll still very sad that Bill left us so early. He was such an amiable, always-upbeat neighbor, we can only think that the angels above are as delighted as we were in now having Bill around 24/7. God bless you, Bill!

Oh wow, I can't believe I missed this. So sorry about "Murph"'s passing. Worked with him about 30 years, played golf, softball and think maybe bowled with him. A greatguy, and good technician, I personally referred to him as MR. WARMTH, because of his soooo dry sense of humor. This world lost a terrific friend.
