Bill was nick named "Grit" in Delta Project due to his Southern Drawl. I met him in 1969, we both served in the Recon Section. The Project was Classified, once we left our compound in NhaTrang for an Op we were "Sterile", No Identification, No Dog Tags, No Patches, NoRank, No Name Tags or Beret just Tiger Stipe or Comoflaged cloths.
Grit was a quite, serious individual.
Liked by all, an exemplary soldier and fine a young Man as ever existed.
He is sorely missed.
I know Grit Volunteered to help Jesus the minute he landed in his presences.
See You soon Brother
GOD Bless You

So long old buddy. You were a great friend back in Training Group, an excellent translator when we needed someone who was fluent in Southernese, which I didn't speak. My best buddy in 3rd group and my companion on that long flight from McChord to Viet Nam. I can still see you standing there in Nha Trang as we said goodbye. You took off for Delta and I left for Bunard. You were a great man, Billy.

I was in the 20th Special Forces Group for 6 years from 1983 to 1989 and first recall meeting Chaplain Pomeroy in 1985 when we deployed to Spain as part of Operation 'Flintlock 85'. He touched me in all that he did for us, openly and 'behind the scenes' to make life better, have some fun and recreation. I remember he sponsored a 5K Run for us, had the T-Shirts printed and made us feel good about everything we were doing. He always had a smile on his face and was a powerful inspiration to me. I reported in to Jumpmaster School at the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group in Fort Devens in the Summer of 1986 and ran into one of his former Delta, B-52 Team Mates from Vietnam. A Sergeant First Class who told me a lot about Chaplain Pomeroy that I did not know before. Bill Pomeroy was an exemplary American Hero, a Warrior and a Disciple of our Lord. He reminded us all what we are really here for, our main purpose in life. LTC Pomeroy will be dearly missed by all who knew him. God Bless Him.

Bill was truly an amazing person in all aspects of his life but most importantly his desire and grace in serving our Lord Jesus Christ and sharing the gospel with any and all who may have been fortunate to cross paths with him. I can only imagine the countless number of people's lives that Bill had a positive impact on! I will forever remember his beautiful smile and kind heart. I send my heartfelt sympathy to Andy, Mary and Elizabeth.

Bill was a great man, father, Soldier and leader of men. He always had a smile and kind word. I called him once to talk about marriage and before long he came to my home and married us. He was that kind of man. He adored his son, always spoke of him. We lost a great man, a man that carried his burdens of war with grace and dignity.
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8. And Bill went and never looked back.

Chaplain LTC Pomeroy family,
Chaplain Pomeroy was a fine Christian man and a good friend. It was an honor to serve with him in 20th Group, and so good to see him again at the Dining Out last May.
Since my sweet Mother's passing I have come to realize much more clearly that the reality of Heaven is just as much a matter of our basic Christian faith as our belief in the existence of God and Christ.
If we say we believe in Christ, we must believe that what He has told us is true about life after death in Heaven for all true believers.
In light of Heaven's actual existence and sure rewards, we can be happy for the gain of Chaplain Pomeroy and our loved ones' who have put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, despite the sadness of our loss.
We can also be greatly comforted by looking forward to our reunion relatively soon with all those in the Lord who have gone on before us.
May God give His blessing and comfort as you put your full faith and trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the God of our fathers and mothers.

Mr Bill was one of a kind. I'm grateful to him for his service to our country, and the freedom he helped maintain. He was a regular fixture in our church, basically part of the architecture. He never doubted the reality and love of Jesus Christ, constantly quoting Matthew 6:33 to both encourage and challenge others. I enjoyed our many discussions, which ranged from theology to politics and war history to family history. I'm going to miss him.

I have known Bill Pomeroy for most of my military carrier. I joined the chapel section in 1982 and I worked for Bill until we deployed to Fort Bragg for Desert Storm. I have so many stories I could tell you but Bill just was one of those people that could bring the happyness out of a person. His son Will was his whole life if you ever wanted to make him smile just start talking about Will. He was a great friend and a brother. RIP Bill we love you brother.

I knew Bill from my time in the 20th SFG(A). Bill was a true warrior with a difference. He provided Christian church services for the group during both drill and on annual training many times in an austere environment. When the 20th was activated for Desert Storm, the old Special Forces Chapel, closed for many years, was reopened and utilized by the 20th during certification of the unit for combat. While he was our chaplain, he was also an experienced Special Forces operator from his Vietnam experiences which allowed him to minister to the unique Soldiers of the 20th Special Forces. We thought a lot of Bill. I recall one incident what highlights how special he was. Bill went to considerable effort to obtain supplies so that a member of our unit could exercise his Jewish faith in a far away place. The package was a pleasant surprise to that member of the unit which prompted him to approach me about it. Bill was just that kind of guy.
