William Pratt, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2025.
Mr. William Henry "Bill" Pratt, Jr., age 80, previously from Binghamton and Afton, NY, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, in Lake Wylie, South Carolina surrounded by family.

Born on November 13, 1944, in Binghamton, NY, Bill lived a full and industrious life marked by hard work, dedication to family, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Over the years, he graduated from Afton Central School District's GED program and he contributed his skills and strong work ethic to a variety of professions. His careers included time at Carriage House East Apartments in Kirkwood, NY; Clearwater Pools in Binghamton, NY; Mirabito Oil in Greene, NY; Jacobson-Textron in Charlotte, NC; and Clover High School Food Services in Clover, SC. He also worked with various roofing and siding companies and pursued independent automotive work-fields that reflected his mechanical aptitude and hands-on approach to life.

Bill was a man who found joy in both activity and stillness. He loved hunting and mowing grass just as much as he enjoyed sitting on his porch taking in the outdoors. A lifelong fan of golden oldies music, drag racing, and wrestling, he had a knack for finding entertainment that brought him comfort and excitement alike. He was known for his love of working on cars-a passion that extended into his professional life-and for spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Whether playing cards or enjoying a game of horseshoes, bowling, or pool, Bill relished moments of connection with others.

He had an open heart for people from all walks of life. Meeting strangers came naturally to him, and he often went out of his way to lend a helping hand whenever he could.

Bill's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Pratt; sons Bill Pratt (and wife Robin), Jason Pratt (and wife Kim), Brian Pratt; daughter Denise Pratt; step-daughter Lisa Barrett; sister Mary Jane Pratt; grandchildren Harrison Pratt (Morgan), Sterling Pratt, A1C, USAF (Maci), Nolan Pratt, Devin Pratt, Alex Courtwright, Dylan Courtwright, Jacob Courtwright, and Owen Courtwright along with many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Henry Pratt, Sr. and Thelma Oreka Pratt, brother James Pratt Sr., and in-laws Francis and Anna Charlier (companion Ronnie Tokos), brothers-in-law Frank George and Francis Charlier, and sisters-in-law Mary Ramey and Nancy Pratt.

Bill's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-with kindness offered freely and stories shared over card games, while tinkering under the hood of a car, or doing many handyman projects for family, friends, and neighbors. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

The family will be holding a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a donation can be made to a local school's Unpaid Lunch Fund. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 12 from 1:00-4:00 (memorial time, oldies music, and refreshments-come as you are).
