William Meyer Riddle

August 10, 1949 - May 2, 2025

William Meyer Riddle, age 75, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, after courageously battling Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). He was born on August 10, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose presence brought warmth, humor, and steady guidance to all who knew him.

William's passion for understanding people began with his education-first at Troy University, where he played on the golf team and earned a degree in psychology, and then at the University of Alabama, where he completed a master's in education with a focus on behavioral psychology. That foundation shaped his career, where he worked with youth in the special needs community and later transitioned into management in the pharmaceutical industry. In every role, he was known as a compassionate, hardworking leader who led with both heart and wisdom.

William's life was defined by the way he loved and cared for others. He was a constant presence for his family-steady, supportive, and proud. As a dad and Papa, he never missed a moment, whether big or small, and his quiet strength and genuine warmth made those around him feel truly seen and valued. He also had a lifelong love for golf, finding joy, peace, and lasting friendships on the course.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 43 years, Sarah Bloodworth Riddle; daughters Elizabeth Riha (James), Emily Farber (J Michael), and Allison Miller (David); grandchildren Emerson, Finley, Campbell, and Channing Riha; and siblings Linda Weaver, Barbara Arnold, and Pat Riddle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and John Riddle; brothers John and Steve Riddle; and nephews Chris and Scott Riddle.

A service to celebrate William's life will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Lutheran Chapel Church, 702 North New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.

Gaston Seniors Golf with Bill for some years, as he shared great stories. His mother teaching him golf strategy on the course. His baseball Hall of Fame relative Chase Riddle at Troy University grabbing him off the golf team for baseball. His gymnast daughter outrunning the college cross country team. He and his wife's personal waiter at his daughter's wedding. All while he was playing amazing golf. Watched him hole an 80 yard golf wedge shot after being out with back problems. More than just a golf friend who we will greatly miss.

Bill was a coworker and friend of mine that i could talk golf with all day. He even gifted me his putter because i didn´t have one at the time. One of the most caring and kind people i have had the honor of knowing. Bill, i hope there are some darn good golf courses up in heaven for you.

Sandy, I´m so sorry for your loss. Bill was truly one of a kind - caring, incredibly smart, always quick with a kind word or a joke to lift the mood. His thoughtful nature and sharp sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to work with them. Please know my thoughts are with you and your girls during this difficult time.

Bill was one of my first sales managers and a great mentor and leader! He always spoke with pride in his family. Had plenty of good times on the golf course during our "field rides". So glad to have the opportunity to know him!
