William Rogers, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 1 to Feb. 6, 2024.
William Allen Rogers, Junior, died January 31, 2024, following complications secondary to a recent heart attack and a seventeen-year journey with renal cell carcinoma.

Any cancer journey is not straightforward, and Allen will always be grateful for the compassionate and concerned caregivers who provided guidance through the years. He appreciated all the love and support of his close friends and family, who helped him through the journey. He was the oldest child of William Allen Rogers, Senior, and Mary Hope (Turner) Rogers. Allen was born and raised in Bennettsville, SC, where he had an idyllic childhood. He enjoyed playing many sports, and was very involved in Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

After high school, he attended Clemson University. He earned a B.S. in 1978 and an M.S. in 1981 in Mechanical Engineering. While at Clemson, Allen was honored to be a member of the Tiger Brotherhood, a non-academic honor society.

He worked for 40 years as an engineer for DuPont, Battelle, Velocys, and Chemours. Allen was a registered Professional Engineer in South Carolina, where he started his career. His work took the family to Delaware, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. The highlights of his career involved working on major capital expansions.

Outside of work, Allen enthusiastically supported his daughters' many sports teams, performing arts, and other extracurricular interests. When he was not coaching a team or contributing many behind-the-scenes hours to support these activities, he could most often be found renovating or improving his family's homes. In his final years, he enjoyed spending time at his family's farm in Bennettsville.

He is survived by and proud of his wife of 37 years, Karen, and his daughters: Virginia Rogers Floyd (Drew) of Charleston, SC; Mary Caroline Rogers of Indianapolis, IN; Margaret Allison Mosher (Paul) of Athens, GA; and Katherine Kerr Rogers of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his sisters, Hope Rogers Komar (Mike) and Eleanor Rogers Hodges (John), brother James Frederick Rogers (Linda), brother-in-law George James Tottis, six nieces, and one nephew.

The family will receive visitors in the parish hall of the church at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 10th, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 306 Fayetteville Ave, Bennettsville, SC. Allen's memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm at the church. Following the service, all friends are invited to join the family at the Rogers Farm on Sandy Grove Church Road for a Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association (kidneycancer.org) and/or Episcopal Relief and Development (episcopalrefiel.org)

Care of the family is entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home-Aberdeen.

I worked with Allen for just a little while in Fayetteville, NC. He was my replacement when I moved to TX. He was a nice guy. We kept in touch for a long time.

Roy and I were so sorry to hear of Allen´s passing we were friends and fellow parishioners at St. Patrick´s Episcopal Church in Dublin, Ohio. When the Rogers family lived here in Marysville, we send our thoughts and prayers of support and love to Karen and all four daughters, and we know that Alan will be received into the loving arms of God, and will be at peace, we want to extend loving thoughts to the entire family. Alan will be much missed in this world. Blessings from Lissa and Roy Barker.

I only met Allen a few times, but knew from those meetings that I had met a very strong and resolute man. Even from Karen´s comments about him, you could ascertain that his "role "as father and husband, was unwavering!
My love and condolences to the Karen and the girls for their earthly loss, but be assured, you all will be together in the Lord´s home one day!

My condolences to Allen's family. I went to school with him. He always had a smile and a funny story. When he worked at Roger's Mercantile, he glued a coin to the counter to watch people try to pick it up. He left many fond memories.
