We were speaking of kind doctors who we had visited. We came up with a handful that showed respect and compassion. Dr. Rowe was at the top.

My deepest sympathies to Dr. Rowe's family. In 1983 Dr. Rowe diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. Something that I have over the years found out was pretty much a miracle. He spent so much time with our consultation, and he was so thorough. I have to say he was one of the best Dr's (if not the best ) that I have ever seen over the past 30yrs. I didn't know he had passed away. I looked him up online to find out if he was still practicing. I was so sad to find out he has passed away. I want his family to know that he was a fantastic, genius man, and I have always been so very grateful for his brilliant diagnosis back then. God Bless!

I, too, just found out about Dr. Rowe. I felt so bad because I was going to send him some Ashe County Cheese and I never did. I used to bring him some each Christmas. I first saw Dr. Rowe in his Elms Street Office in 1985. I saw him monthly at first then less at times when my illness would abate. He treated me like his only patient and I enjoyed the humor we exchanged about my love for Wolfpack football. I will miss him so much.

To the family of Dr. Rowe,
I have just learned of his passing! I tried to keep check on him but felt I was worrying the office personnel. I am in shock. I was still praying for his recovery. I began seeing him around 1980 in his old office. He came HIGHLY recommended. I can truly say that he literally saved my life. I miss him. He and I were discussing his upcoming retirement when I saw him in December. I told him I hated to see him go, but if ANYBODY deserved it, it was him! SUCH a dedicated physician! I am truly broken hearted. I will keep you all in my prayers. I read his guest book and saw all the glowing things said about him, and to these entries, I can only say 'ditto'! Goodbye Dr. Rowe...YOU ARE MISSED!

I've known Tom for 30 years. I have never met a better doctor. Medicine is hard, but Tom's vast range of knowledge made it seem almost easy for him. His compassion for his patients (enhanced, I think, by his own physical problems), his love for Betty and Kavin, and Isaac—especially Isaac—and his kindness to the people who worked with him, set him off as someone very special. The Lord has given us only one Great Physician, but in Tom he gave us a great physician. He will be missed.

A patient of Dr. Rowe's for sixteen years, he was a humble, compassionate and a down to earth man who portrayed those characteristics first followed by his superb doctoring skills. Talking to him was like talking to a friend. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and he always tried to prescribe to make me as comfortable as possible. I am among the many who will miss him and think of him every time I drive by the office. My sincere condolences to his family. Judy Reed (Franklinville, NC)

I was a patient of Dr Rowes for the last 7 years. Dr Rowe was a wonderful person and doctor who truly cared, listened, and helped you. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his entire family and his co-workers at GMA who I know also thought the world of him. Not enough can be said about Dr Rowe and how much he will be missed by us all.

I met Dr. Rowe on two separate occasions as a patient about five years ago. Even though he could not find what the problem was he was the first doctor to admit that just because we could not find a name for the problem did not mean it did not exist. In our conversations he discussed his background and his profound love for his family, especially his son.I remember at my last visit when I was about to leave I said "Doctor Rowe when I hurt I really hurt." and unlike any doctor before him he said 'I know you do." I wish a lot of doctors would have spent a day with him to learn how compassion toward the patient means so much. I am profoundly saddened by your loss and the multitude of others who were touched by his life. J. Michael Cranford

To the Rowe Family and Staff at Greensboro Medical: I am so sad to know that Dr. Rowe is no longer with us. I met him in the early 80's and his patience, care and determination to find out why I was so sick was outstanding. I am sure many patients can say the same thing, but I truly thank Dr. Rowe for allowing God to direct him as he treated me and because of him I am alive and have been able to live a pretty normal life. I was very fond of Dr. Rowe and hold him high in esteem and respect for being an outstanding Doctor. I pray for you as you go through this time of grieving the loss of your love one. Thank you for sharing him with us, such needed patients. God bless you. Patricia Thomas .

Such a great guy - first had the honor to meet Tom when he was ahead of me as center on the football field as well on the basketball team when I was a sophomore at Lee Edwards - Tom was in my two year older brothers class '60; from all I have heard he truly rose to great levels academically and as a family man. Condolences to his children and all his family.

my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family, friends, staff and patients of Dr.Rowe. I have been a RA patient for 5 plus years. During my husband's gallant fight with ALS, my RA flared severely and Dr.Rowe's understanding, treatment, and advise was instrumental in my ability to get through the most difficult time in my life. He will be greatly missed by all.
With sincerest regards,

I was truly shocked and deeply saddened when I learned of the untimely death of Tom. I was out of the country at the time of his death and just learned of his passing. Tom was a gentleman above all and always willing to see a consultation, both for patients and family. He will be greatly missed as a special member of the Greensboro medical community.

To the Rowe family: I remember Kavin speaking so highly of his father. I remember him describing times they spent together at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, including rides on the train, when Kavin was a child. And Kavin always seemed to have such joy describing how much his father loved to be with Isaac. Your family is in my prayers as you walk through this period of celebrating Dr. Rowe's life and mourning the great loss.

I can't think of a time in my life where I ever enjoyed going to see a doctor, but in 1996, I met Tom Rowe and became his patient, and that initial sentiment was changed forever. For some reason, we just got along great, and I would find myself looking forward to my quarterly visits with him. We joked. We laughed. And through these years, he made my condition completely tolerable and "livable." I thanked him at every visit.
My life is better because of my relationship with Dr. Rowe, certainly medically speaking, but more importantly, through the long-term friendship I had with this great man. I will miss him deeply. God bless him and his family.

To the Rowe family: My heart broke when I saw Dr. Rowe's obituary in the newspaper. How could I make it without my buddy around? I have been Dr. Rowe's patient for over thirty (30) years. Through the teen years of my childen, the college years, marriages, and even the birth of my only two grandchildren. Dr. Rowe has been there to help me get through it all. The lupus that I thought would be the death of me proved to be no problem at all. The subsequent brain tumors were. When my daughter died two years ago he was there to help me through it all. Dr. Rowe's intelligence is superceded only by his care of his patients. We have all been very blessed to have known him.

Dr. Rowe will be missed by so many! I used to work at GMA years ago and Dr. Rowe always had a smile and treated his patients and everyone with so much respect. He became my Mother's Doctor and he was so good to her. She really did like him. As a Soldier in the Army, he was America's finest!
To Mrs. Rowe and the family, my Prayers are with you. You have such beautiful memories of Dr. Rowe!
May God Bless you!

To the Rowe family- Tom proudly served our country as a Major in the Army and as a gifted physician for many of us in North Carolina. He was one of the most humble and gentle giants I have ever known. Whenever I saw him at the YMCA he always had a kind word to say. He truely was a wonderful role model for all of us.

To The Rowe Family:
I am in shock! I just happen to look at the Newspaper and saw the announment. I am a patient of Dr. Rowe's. I think we all expected him to outlive us. What can I add with everything that has already been said? He was a wonderful Doctor. I guess the Lord needed him in Heaven. We now have all those Memories to share. All I can do is add DITTO, DITTO to all that has been said. I will include your family in my prayers. I really am going to Miss DR. ROWE. I extend my deepest Sympathy.

Dear Betty, Kavin, and family,
I remember being at a lot of swim meets with you when Kavin and my son, Michael, swam together. I most remember Tom as my doctor. He gave me courage when I was afraid of illnesses and medications with long names. What I read about him in the newspaper was so impressive. On a personal level, what was even more impressive was the kind of doctor he was to me. He was so kind, compassionate, and incredibly humble. He always had a big smile. I never felt that he was in a rush but that I really mattered to him. I am so grateful that I was blessed by being his patient. My prayers and my heartfelt sympathy go out to you.

Dear Rowe Family,
I feel like I have lost a wonderful friend and never actually met Dr. Rowe. You see, he has been my Mothers Dr. for Years. He has helped her through some rough times with her RA. She spoke of him as a friend as well as a doctor and through her I feel that I know him too. My words are failing me but please know that he touched so many lives, his family, his patients and his patients families because of the care he gave our loved ones. My prayers are with you all.

I first met Big Tom at the age of twelve when we played Little League together and his Dad was our coach. We all remember his Mom from school. What a nice family. We resumed our friendship in Jr. High school where we played on the football and basketball team. All of the classmates that knew Tommy would have to say that he was probably one of the nicest and most pleasant person in our class. All of the achievements I see he accomplished, and what his patients say about him, I am not surprised. I am looking forward to seeing him walking the streets of gold when my time here is up. Prayers to his family.

Dearest Betty and Family,
Thinking of you today and the days ahead as you mourn the loss of a special man. Husband, father, brother, son, but most treasured – “Pops.” Tom was an incredible person with enormous depth that not only defined his intellect and great character, but his gentle spirit. It is difficult to know what to say to someone you love who has suffered such a great loss. William Shakespeare said it best - “Do not let your grief be measured by his worth, for then your sorrow has no end.” Please know that you will not take this journey alone. Sending continued love and prayers.

Four or more years ago I was diagnosed with a debilitating and possibly fatal disease, and Dr. Rowe was my "second opinion". In one office visit, Dr. Rowe accurately declared a mis-diagnosis, found the minor cause of my problem(which required no treatment), and then we talked a few minutes about other things! I am blessed of the Lord for having met this dear man! I haven't seen him since, but my heart is broken for the loss of this wonderful gifted precious person. May the Lord be your strength as you face this sad time.

I had the privilege of having Dr. Rowe for the last 25 years to treat my RA. He was a great doctor and went out of his way to help you. He also discovered my lung cancer when I went in one day with back pain - which I thought was the RA also. An Xray showed a little different. I am really going to miss him and so sorry he did not get enjoy a great retirement which he so richly deserved. My prayers are with the family and I hope to see you again Dr. Rowe.

Dear Betty and Family,
I worked at GMA in the Coumadin clinic for 10 years and interacted with Dr. Rowe almost daily. He was also my rheumatologist. I always found Dr. Rowe to be friendly, humorous, and caring. May fond memories of Dr. Rowe soon replace the hurt in your hearts.

I loved Dr. Rowe's country bedside manner. He never claimed to know it all, just that he would keep trying things until something worked. He also was a good listener and never rushed our appt. He was willing to treat whatever was wrong on that day if he could and would not send me to another dr. for another co-pay. This is very rare and was appreciated more than I can say. I will miss him and I hope you will remember than love and memories are stonger than death; and that love will sustain. Hildagene Reid
