William Sachs Obituary

William H. Sachs III passed away peacefully at the McGraw Hospice Center on April 11, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. Bill was born on Feb. 11, 1947, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where his ashes will be interred in the National Cemetery. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and afterward earned his bachelor's degree in property management from the University of North Carolina. Bill lived in St. Augustine for the past 20 years, where he owned and operated Sachs Construction Co. Bill loved working with kids, especially coaching Little League Baseball. He founded the girls' soccer team at St. Joseph's Academy. He is survived by his wife, Karen; son, William H. Sachs IV, U.S. Army of Fort Polk, La.; two daughters, Kristen O'Brien of Columbia, S.C., and Katie MacGregor of Ocala, Fla; parents, Col. William H. and Helen M. Sachs; sisters, Barbara Sloan of St. Augustine, and Stormy Homan of Lake Charles, La.; brothers, John Sachs and Paul Sachs of St. Augustine; and two grandchildren, Trey and Evan O'Brien. A memorial mass celebrating his life, followed by a reception in the church hall, will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. In lieu of Flowers, a donation may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL.
