William Shank 1924 - 2018
Springfield, IL—William A. Shank, 93, of Springfield, passed away at 4:35 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Eastern Star Home.
William was born on October 14, 1924 in Sumner, the son of Ray and Dessie Rigall Shank. He married Janice Doolen on March 30, 1974 at First Methodist Church in Springfield.
William graduated from Greenville High School in 1942. He proudly served in the United States Army where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. William earned a master's degree in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and worked for the Department of Revenue, but was a teacher for most of his life. He taught computer classes at Lincoln Land Community College. William was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Chatham Central Lodge #523, Ansar Shrine, Springfield Consistory, Optimus Club, Data Processing Management Association, and also Eastern Star, Flower City Chapter #152 for 65 years. He enjoyed computers and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
William was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Karl and Bob Shank; and sister, Marie Jenkins.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Shank of Springfield; son, Jerre Shank of Chicago; daughter, Susan Lobb of Springfield; grandchild, Max Lobb; brother, John Chester Shank of Greenville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society prior to ceremonies.
The family will be hosting a Graveside Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield, with Pastor Brian Mills officiating.
