William Sharp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 28, 2024.
William James Sharp of Coatesville, Pennsylvania passed away at his home the morning of February 22, 2024, with his wife of 60 years, Sharon, by his side. He was born October 3, 1941, in Superior, Wisconsin, the eldest of four siblings. His parents were William M. and Gladys (Lindgren) Sharp.

Bill graduated Superior Central High School and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, graduating in 1963 with an Honors Degree in Geology. While in college, he met his wife, Sharon Simatic. They married June 22, 1963, and shared 60 wonderful years, raising two children together. Upon graduating college, he joined the United States Marine Corps.

After serving four years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam, William and Sharon settled in Coatesville, Pennsylvania where he was employed as a metallurgist at Lukens Steel for 35 years. In retirement, he spent his remaining years doting upon his family, especially his five grandchildren.

Always foremost in his heart, Pop Pop put his family first above all else. He was incredibly proud and supportive of his children and grandchildren. Always there when needed, he would prioritize a visit or conversation with each of his siblings and kids every week.

His second love was the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Captain. It created the man he became. He was honorable, faithful, and truly embodied the adage "Once a Marine, always a Marine." Assigned to VMFA-542, he flew F-4 Phantom II jets based in Da Nang and Chu Lai.

Bill was always available for his family and friends. Whether it was a shoulder to lean on, a need for sage advice, taking care of the grandkids, or even installing a kitchen, he was there. He loved spending summers at 'The Lake' in Solon, coordinating with his siblings so the entire family could be there together.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sharon, and his two children Michelle Frederick (Ken), of Grandy, NC, and Scott (Jennifer), of Morgantown, Pa. Known as Pop Pop, he is also survived by five adoring grandchildren, Matthew Reed Frederick, Kenneth Michael Frederick, Kathryn Lindsey Sharp, Lilian Rae Sharp, and Ailie Josephine Sharp. Surviving siblings are Timothy J. (Amy) of Superior Wi, and Elizabeth Killalea of Solon Springs, Wi. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael T. Sharp (Linda) of Foxboro, Wi., and his parents William and Gladys.

Please raise a glass in his honor. "Lord, it is good for us to be here."
