Allan SHIELDS Obituary
On Sunday, July 22, 2012, with great courage and dignity, Al continued on to the 19th hole, with the British Open playing in the background. Predeceased by his parents Lillian and Lorne (Hap) Shields. Survived by his sisters; Judy Shields, Joyce White (Carl), Lorna Mangano (Sebastian), Jill Reid (Lynn), Tracy Shields (Doug Staver), and his twin brother Andy Shields (Mary). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Amy, Jason, Chris, Emily, Tomas, Willy, Lars, Al, Catherine, Brittany, and Brianna. To his friends who have supported him throughout this journey, we say thank you. Special thanks to Dr. Laurie, Sylvie, Dr. O'Dell, Carol, and the staff at both the General Hospital and the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2313 Carling Ave. (west of Carlingwood) Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery. I'll always remember coming home that day when Al was looking after my little ones. Shane and Jessica. When I came in he was juggling cherry tomatoes. I said, "What the hell are you doing" He said, "trying to entertain them" I'm running out of stuff" He was truly a unique friend.

We are acquainted with Al mainly through the stories from my brother Brian Murray who I know loved Al. They were great golf buddies along with a group of wonderful friends from St. Joe's Highschool who also loved Al. We are sure that Al felt this love and strength from his buddies over the past few years as he fought such a good fight. His love of life and his determination to carry on through his illness is an inspiration to all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Al's family. He will be missed.

We were very sorry to hear of Al's passing. Al sold us our first(and only)home. We have fond memories of him driving us all over the city, and pretending to enjoy whatever smoothie concoction I would bring for our early morning house viewings. My heartfelt condolences to Al's family. Although I knew Al mainly through my brother Paul and their extended crew, he was a great guy and endured his prolonged illnss with dignity. Allen and Andy were close friends and classmates while growing attending St Rita's school, the very fond memories i have of playing sports, and just having fun with the twins, is in my deepest thoughts. Although Allan and Andy were great friends of my younger brother Dan from grade school to present, Al's fight and determination through this lengthy ordeal impressed me the most as he soldiered on without complaining in the least about the bad hand he was dealt over the past few years. We can only remember the good times golfing, playing euchre and partying with Big Al over the years!
