William Sompayrac Obituary

Published by Bennett Funeral Home from Nov. 25 to Nov. 27, 2014.
William "Will" Augustus Sompayrac, our beloved son and brother, passed away on November 22, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was only 18 years old. Will was a senior at Goochland High School (GHS) where he had thrived among his teachers and classmates, many of whom he had known since kindergarten. Will was keenly interested in theater, both as an actor and a director. He leaves behind an impressive body of work for someone so young. At GHS, he performed in five plays and student directed two plays. This fall, he served as student director for Alice in Wonderland at GHS, watching rehearsals from his bed at VCU Medical Center via Skype and providing insightful feedback. Will was involved for several summers with the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC). He performed in summer camp productions of Bugsy Malone, Noises Off, and Pride and Prejudice in which he starred as Mr. Bennet. Broadway actress and Tony Award winner Alice Ripley heard of Will's condition and came to Richmond to give him a private recital at the hospital. It was one of the joys of his life. Will was also an avid fan of the New York Rangers hockey team. On his recent birthday in September, Will enjoyed a FaceTime video call from the NYR goalie Henrik Lundqvist. Will enjoyed traveling to Disney World, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, and New York City. However, his favorite destination was Coldwater Lake, Michigan, for annual "Hoskinsfest" family reunions. He looked forward to going all year and loved being there with his cousins. We would like to thank the medical and nursing staff at Virginia Urology and VCU Health System, who provided our son and brother with such loving and expert care. Will is survived by his parents, Marsha and Mark, twin brother Luke, aunt Darla and her husband Richard, aunt Rita and her husband Kip, uncle Scott and his wife Jeri, uncle Rand and his wife Rose, uncle Scot and his wife Susan, as well as his cousins Ben, Nick, Andrew, Abby, Matt H. and his...
