William SPENCER Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Dec. 21, 2015 to Jan. 2, 2016.
William Percival "Percy" Spencer
Born on the family homestead on June 30, 1929, the youngest child and last surviving member of a family of eight children born to William Spencer and Esther Matthews, English immigrants. He began his schooling at age eight, first at Belgrave, then Fairy Glen, completing grade eight. Farming began in earnest after that, alongside his father and older brother. In 1952, Percy married Patricia May Glover. Two years later they moved to the Spencer homestead at SW 36-46-18 W2. They farmed there until their retirement to Fairy Glen, where Percy remained very active. Percy is survived by his devoted wife of sixty three years, Pat, and their seven children, Roberta Spencer, Laurie (Terry) Danyluk, Reg (Barb) Spencer, Lynn (Kathy) Spencer, Trish (Ben Nordin) Spencer, Colleen (Robin) Kirkham, and Bud (Sarah MacFadden) Spencer, sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. On December 18, 2015, Percy passed away peacefully at home in the care of his loving family.

He always knew where the best blueberries were. I'm told that playing cribbage with him was more like getting a schooling in cribbage, so I never had the guts to ask for a game. He was a reliable, forthright and hardworking man. In a world that needs more people like him, Percy raised a family with strong values and warm hearts. Very proud to know have known him.
