William Stone Obituary

William Joseph Stone 68 died early Tuesday morning at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 2: 00 PM March 24 at Arrington Funeral Directors with the Reverend Charles Filiatreau officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Stone was born October 17 1936 the son of Albert and Sarah Stone who preceded him in death. He was reared in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School and Marion Military Institute. He earned a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt in 1959 and obtained a second degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He served with the United States Air Force Reserves in Chaumont France during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. Mr. Stone was the Director of Marketing at the Jackson Sun before establishing the Jackson Journal a weekly newspaper. He was most recently employed with Den-Ray Sign Company. In addition to being an avid hunter and fisherman and an excellent creative chef Mr. Stone will be remembered as a person of great wit. He made people laugh with his many colorful sayings. He was funny. Mr. Stone is survived by his wife of 43 years Brenda 'Bebe' Stone a son Will Stone Jr. and his wife Julanne and their children Joseph III and Ella Grace a daughter Frances Stone and her daughter Phoebe Kate Maners all of Jackson. He leaves a brother Albert Stone Jr. of Jackson and a sister Liza Connette and her husband Ed of Wilmington NC and their children. Pallbearers will be Asa Stone Addison Stone Andy Connette Ab Taylor Montie Matlock Kenzie Barker Fred Young IV Ab Taylor IV and Vincent Matlock. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Edenton Fred Young III Bob Bankston George Yarbro Simpson Russell Bob Beare Pat Mann Harry Lane Tom Hensley Jim Johnston John Johnston and Jeff Johnston. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Bebe Stone Ministries 39 Caradine Dr. Jackson TN or www.bebestone.com. Arrington Funeral Directors 148 W. University Parkway 731-668-1111
