Tom was born in New Bern and was residing in Charlotte. He leaves his wife, Marsha Lynn Wright Tucker; his mother, Helena Tucker of Raleigh; his sister, Bibi Tucker and her husband, Neal Harrison, of Raleigh; as well as cousins in Raleigh, Beaufort, S.C., Greensboro, Washington, D.C., Eagle, Mich., and Recife, Brazil. His father, James Elliott "Hap" Tucker, predeceased him.
Tom was well-known in the furniture industry for his unique lighting designs. He traveled internationally and Raleigh residents may recall his shop at Five Points in the mid 1980s. He was in China working on lines for the upcoming Furniture Market in High Point.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Mary's Chapel, Saint Mary's School, 900 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008. Family and friends are invited to recount their memories of Tom. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, 2132 Ridge Road, immediately after the memorial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
