William Tulloss, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 16, 2022.
William Brice Tulloss, Jr. of Monrovia, California passed away on July 16, 2022 at the age of 75 from cancer and stroke. Bill, as he was known by friends and family, was born in Maryland on February 13, 1947 to Shirley and William "Brice" Tulloss. The Tulloss family moved to Monrovia, California in 1952 where young Bill took up several interests including folk, country and bluegrass music, meteorology, stamp and coin collecting, among many other activities. Bill attended the University of Southern California where he would earn a bachelor's degree and an MBA and enjoyed his membership in the Chi Phi fraternity; and graduated from the University of La Verne, College of Law with a degree of Juris Doctor. Bill served in the California National Guard as a non-commissioned officer in Fire Direction Control. Bill married Harriet Ann Nelson of Manhattan Beach, California in 1970. The couple would ultimately move to Diamond Bar, California and raise two children. They celebrated 32 years of marriage before Harriet's passing in 2003. In the early 1970's, Bill took a job at Aerojet in the nascent field of Information Technology. Over time, Bill would take on managerial responsibilities at other firms, eventually rising to a director role at CADAM, an IBM subsidiary. Throughout his career, Bill would assume executive roles in marketing and legal affairs in a variety of settings including Silicon Valley. In his later years, Bill practiced as an attorney. Bill's work often required travel, which he enjoyed immensely. He had a natural curiosity and adventurous spirit which he shared with his family. Bill was active in his children's school and extracurricular activities, including becoming a certified referee for AYSO Soccer. During his college years, Bill enjoyed boating in the Newport area aboard his friend's boat and always dreamed of owning his own boat. In 2004, Bill met Hetty Kan. The pair began a relationship of shared interests and affection. Hetty and Bill tied the knot in 2007 at the Ritz-Carlton, Huntington in Pasadena, California. He saw Hetty's family as his own and was close to Hetty's parents, three children and nine grandchildren. Bill's dream came true when he and Hetty purchased the 44 ft 1997 Sea Ray they fondly named Zinphony (Z1) to celebrate Bill's love for red wines and sea. He would sail from the southland all the way up to the San Francisco Bay where Z1 became Bill and Hetty's "floating condo" and loved by his grand children. They traveled the world together, hiked local trails, and camped in the national parks in their new Sprinter RV van named Z2. In September of 2021, Bill was diagnosed with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. Despite the low odds of survival and painful treatments, Bill chose to fight. He endured agonizing pain and sleepless nights to continue the life that he cherished. With Hetty's vigilance and care, Bill battled back the cancer for ten months. He reached a level of health that made it possible for the two of them to enjoy walks, visit local attractions, and even take trips together. Before his death, Bill was able to drive to Northern California, stayed aboard Z1, tended to Zinphony and spent his last days happily by Hetty's side.
