William VAN TINE Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Feb. 16 to Feb. 18, 2013.
VAN TINE, William Robert
William "Bill" Van Tine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the age of 93. He is predeceased by his first wife, Leona. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Kirsten; sons Jim (Elaine), Dusttin, Stan, and Gene (Irene); daughters Pam (Herb), Vigdis (Mark), Anita, and Hilde (George); grandchildren Jaison (Sarah), Alex, Andrea, Mathew, Katrina (Nick), Wesley, Laura, and Jeffrey (Starr); great-grandchildren River and Maximilian; sister Eleanor; brothers Doug (Aneta), George (Marjie). Bill, born in Montana, moved with his family to Ootsa Lake when he was 10 days old. He enjoyed country life, farming their land with a team of horses. With many careers in his lifetime, school bus driver, building supply manager to boat salesman and store manager, Bill was always a cowboy at heart. Always willing to lend a hand, he had a great ease and deep love for his wife and family. Bill had a keen appreciation for the outdoors, he loved fishing and hunting and loved to return to the Ootsa lake area. He was a big Canucks fan. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kazemi, doctors and nurses of Royal Columbian and Peace Arch Hospitals. We would also like to thank all our friends and family for their kind words and support. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at Arbor Chapel, Valley View Funeral Home, 14660 72nd Avenue, Surrey, BC on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Peach Arch Hospital Foundation.

I was privilged to meet this wonderfully kind man. God's blessings to all who loved him! Uncle Billy, thank you for the stories you shared with me. I will never forget them.

A kind and gentle soul, the only exception being when he would get his hackles up over the Canucks losing. I will never forget you Bill, you were one of the most decent men I have ever met. Your son in law Herb.

Fond memories of Uncle Bill are usually of fall hunts on the shore of Ootsa Lake, hunting camp, rifles and moose. A gentle, kind man with strength in presence to be admired. Truly a pioneer of our time, respected and loved.

If greatness were determined by kindness, generousity, gentleness, and all-encompassing love...then Uncle Bill was one of the GREATEST men who've ever lived. We love you and will miss you for all our days. Valerie, Stew, Rein and Brianna.

Papa Bill,
You will always be in my heart forever. You were the kindest man I have ever met. I always loved the stories you used to tell me about your journies as a cowboy I will never forget them. Thank you for loving the entire family as your own, I will always remember your bacon and eggs cooked with all the love in the world. My favorite thing you did was how you used to protect your bird feeder from the Cats with you sling shot, so funny. I will miss you very much, till we meet again. Love Mathew

I had the privilege of meeting Bill shortly after I met Vigdis, back in the very late 1970's. Bill as I recall never had a bad word to say about anyone, in fact the word criticial didn't exist in Bill's character. Instead was a heart full of patience, love and kindness and an unbelievable calm, strong patience with those that passed through his life. He has influenced and taught me many lessons. I will miss you Bill but your memories will not be forgotten. I love you. mark
