Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2024.
William "Bill" Nelson Wright, a beloved husband, father, and educator, passed away on May 22, 2024, in Bartow, Florida, at the age of 88. He was born on January 17, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bill is survived by his wife, Joan, his son, Ted, and his daughter, Elizabeth.

Bill dedicated 40 years of his life to the field of education, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many. He served as a teacher at Robinson School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for 10 years, including a year as acting principal. He later transitioned to become a guidance counselor at various schools, including Bartow High School. In addition to his educational career, Bill shared his musical talents as a church organist.

Outside of work, Bill found joy in playing the piano and organ, as well as traveling to new places. His warm and caring nature made him a wonderful husband, loving father, and a great man.

A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Bartow, Florida, on June 15, 2024, at 11 am. Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you all and your loved one today and always. Bob and I could never call him Bill, we always called him Mr. Wright. I remember our Senior trip to Washington DC. When Bob and I got married he was acting principal and he gave his permission for us to marry in the Robinson chapel and also played at our wedding. He came to our home for dinner quite a few times, too. Our good memories will sustain us.

I am so sorry to hear to his of passing. I had him for American history, civics and he was the faculty advisor to the Student Government at Robinson. My parents traveled to England for 2 weeks and Mr. Wright stayed with us (my brothers Bill, Neil and me). I was 10th or 11th grade, my brother Bill was a year older and Neil was in 8th grade, I think. We had a terrific time. Very funny stories about our adventures in the kitchen as neither he, nor we, knew how to cook. Deepest condolences to Joan, Elizabeth and Ted.

Mr. Wright was a young teacher in the 60´s at Robinson School. His classes were fun, interesting and humorous. His teaching style made for an orderly, relaxed and respectful atmosphere. He was one of the teachers who inspired my own career in education. To this day, 59 years later, I remember him with great fondness. My heart is with the family as they mourn his loss.

While attending First United Methodist Church in Bartow I remember closing my eyes to bask in the worship of a prelude or postlude with Bill at the keyboard. Weekly I sang a hymn with reverence or gusto following Bill´s lead on the organ. I can´t begin to count the seasonal programs and special music events attended by many members of the public, in addition to church folks, all of whom left with words of recognition for Bill on their lips, and bursting praise filling their hearts.
Thank you,Bill, for your untold hours of practice and your years of faithful service to God.

I met Bill Wright on my first day of high school as our homeroom teacher. I had him for history and social studies in the following years. After graduation, he said to me, "Marvin, you know you can call me `Bill´ now." I almost choked getting that "Bill" out! He was my favorite and most influential high school teacher and I treasure all of our meetings, both high school and post. He was wonderful about keeping in touch with his ex-students.
