William Zinken Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 2007.
ZINKEN _ William Peter "Bill" William Peter "Bill" Zinken passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer on January 29, 2007. Bill was born in Kitchener, ON, on December 10, 1954. He will be lovingly remembered by: his wife and best friend, Bonnie; sons, Matthew and Gordon (Diana Orzes); mother Marion Zinken; brother Bob (Marilyn); sisters, Sue Hunter and Pat Spruyt; sister and brother-in-law, Donalda and Gerry Ledene; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew, and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Edward (1968) and his father Kenneth Harvey Zinken (1991). He graduated from SAIT in 1976 and worked in the oil and gas industry for thirty years as a piping designer, checker, and drafting manager. He was a great supporter of his children's ambitions, always finding time to make it to their games and performances. His pride was unmistakable in his son's endeavors. He enjoyed his travels across Canada and frequent camping trips to the mountains as well as his time with friends. Bill never lost his sense of humor. Even during his time at the hospice he was able to brighten the days of those around him with a joke. A special thank you to the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Hospice Calgary, and Agape Hospice for the excellent care and support that we received. Thank you especially to Dr. Forsyth, Dr. Roldan, Dr. Fong, and palliative home care worker, Henriette. A Memorial Service will be held at Strathmore United Church (410 - 4 Street, Strathmore, AB) on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Bill's name directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Hospice Calgary, or to the Agape Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME and CEMETERY. Telephone: 403-272-5555.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. I fondly remember coaching both Matt and Gord when they played little league baseball and Bill was always there lending a hand when needed and cheering loudly for his sons and the team. There was even an odd discussion or two with an umpire on occasion. Bill will me missed and we wish the Zinkin Family well.

My deepest condolences to the entire Zinken clan. I have to confess I remember Bill as "Billy" since he and his sister were classmates and neighbours of mine in Red Deer. Even though much time has passed since then, I still have fond memories of him and our old school days together. My thoughts are with you all.

Our condolences to Bonnie and family, our thoughts are with you. John was a highschool friend of Bonnie's and only met Bill a couple of times but it was easy to see how well they matched each other.

My brother Brad played hockey with Gordon and I remember that Bill was always such a happy and great guy to be around. He would always cheer the boys on with such great enthusiasm, even when they were down a couple of goals. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.

I am so sorry for your loss,I have known Bill as a friend for almost 30 years and worked with him for many of those years as well. Bill was a wonderful friend, co-worker and employee. His sense of humour was the hallmrk of my daily work routine. A joke from Bill and my day was complete. His devotion to his family and his "Bonnie" made him the prime example of the perfect family man. He was well loved and will be missed greatly.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.
Iworked with Bill at Gemini Engineering and fact that that was some years ago and that I was there three times over the years didn't change special memories about people that I was working with.
Bill was one them.
