Willie Hayes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2008.

Willie Mae Hayes

Mrs. Willie Mae Hayes was born to Marion and Viola Joe Dolford on April 8, 1939, in Florence.

She was a life-long member of the North Florence Community, where she raised her two children, David Allen and Wilma.

She was a graduate of Wilson High School and spent many years of employment with Carolinas Hospital System, One-Hour Martinizing Cleaners, Jack and Jill, and Muldrow & Bakers Day Care Center. Out of all of her years of employment, she was most proud of her work with children.

She was a member of Monumental Baptist Church for over 31 years where she served in the choir, Pastors Aide, Pulpit Aide and Willing Workers. She was a devoted member who loved her church family. Other organizations included the Household of Ruth.

Willie Mae loved her community and was totally dedicated to her family. Family meant everything to her and she demonstrated it in words and actions every day.

She enjoyed sitting on her front porch and greeting her neighbors and friends as they passed, or just a friendly wave across the street to neighbors of over 35 years. To know this dear lady was to love her.

She didnt have much, but she would feed and help anybody in need. Her friends never knew her to have an enemy.

Mrs. Hayes leaves behind a loving family that is devastated by this great loss.

Survivors include her son, David Allen Hayes; daughter, Wilma H. Epps; grandchildren, Jade and Davita Upshur, Joshua James; great-grandson, Azel Banag; brothers, Curley and Ernest Dolford of Florence, Elder Marion (Josephine) Dolford of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Viola Lovell of Florence and Rosalie Gosha of Philadelphia. She also leaves a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special friend, Jessie Mae Smith.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Monumental Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery, directed by Backus Funeral Home.

The family will receive members and friends at the home of her daughter at 817 Millier Drive, Darlington.

What more can be said or done, memories of every human emotion that life and time created were shared with you, nothing else can be said or done, only the lifelong love for you for as long as I live, Wilma

My dearest Sister
How can I begin to express my love for you.No one could have had a more loving sister. You meant the world to me and I honestly wondered how I could go on without you.God has been my help as I grieved your loss.I understand more clearly why the Psalmist said "If it had not been for the Lord who was on my side where would I be" Willie Mae, we took so much for granted, assuming we would always be there for each other and life would go on indefinitely. I miss you so much and I know that there will always be that void in my life.I thank GOD for the time He gave us. I am so grateful that I have Curt, Manny, Ree,Rose, Josie and Deanna to lean on.Rest on in heaven knowing that Bunky and Allen are now our children, just as you would have wanted it. We will always be there for them. We always knew that one day the six would become five but I promise you that we will continue to love each other and bring the family together as much as possible, in your honor. And so I say goodnight my sister.I take comfort knowing that you are resting in the arms of our beloved savior. Rest on Willie Mae,i'll see you in the rapture.

Your little brother,
Junior (Marion)

My sweet Aunt Willie Mae,
Over a year has passed and the thought that I will never see you on Earth again still hurts my heart deeply. I missed your presence, your smile, that hearty laugh of yours, and your warm embrace this past summer in my first visit back to Florence. Our lives will never be quite the same without you in it. Fortunately, you left us with many, many fond memories. I consider myself blessed to have had you in my life. I know it was the Lord who called you home, so I try not to question why. I just know that you are at peace resting in His arms right where His angels belong.
I love you.

September 25, 2009

Ms Willie Mae,
You will forever be the epitome of style and elegence. I admired you as a child and now, as a adult, I admire and value you as an example of what I can be. Your life truly is a testament of courage in the face of adversity and faith in the living God. It is my prayer that I too will not falter nor stumble along this journey we call life but willfight the good fight of courage and stand for what is right and true. Thank you for doing what others could and would not do and for showing the rest of us what must be done.
Sleep and rest.
I love you always,

Mrs. Willie Mae, a dear cousin, is deeply missed. She was very special, extremely kind and so "easy going."

Mrs. Willie Mae... I'll fondly remember and cherish precious memories of her. I remember when I graduated from college, Mrs. Willie Mae gave me a pair of my first isotoner gloves. She said "Pat, they will keep your hands warm on those cold cold mornings as you drive to school." They not only kept my hands warm, but I thought of her and her warm beautiful smile. I wore those gloves for many years.

To Wilma, Allen and all of us who love her, ...Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

May God Strengthen!

Though your smile is gone forever, and your hands we can't touch, we still have many memories of the one we loved so much. Your memory is our keepsake with which we'll never part. God has you in His care, we have you in our hearts.
As long as you're in our hearts, you'll never be forgotten.

I am the daughter of the late Willie Mae Hayes, Wilma, and I want to thank everyone for their prayers and expressions of sympathy which provided comfort during our time of bereavement. To have had her as my mom was one of God's greatest gifts and to have shared her with all of you has been a blessing. She was my mom, best friend, confidant, healer of boo-boos and broken hearts. We went many places together especially Superwalmart for Nekot crackers. I sometimes smile about us and the others that smiled with us throughout the years. We ask as a family unit, neighbor, friend, coworkers, that prayers continue to abound as sometimes we don't know how to pray; Likewise the spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes interssion for us with groanings which can not be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:26-29. He called her for his purpose. She answered and for all we know not a minute too soon nor late. She is not in pain and I have memories of her calling me "Bunky", nobody could say it like her but many memories remain in my heart and in my mind. The many prayers that went up during this time were and are continually appreciated, don't stop. I praise and thank him for the years we had with her and I have only the best memories of "mama". Yes, I miss her immensely but He called her. Thank you all very much because when we see her again, she will thank you again, too. So he answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. Luke 10:29. Who are our neighbors? All of us. Wilma H. Epps

To my dear family, you are in my prayers and thoughts daily. May God give you the strength you need to deal with the home going of Willie Mae, who seemed like my very own blood family. Just know that God never put any more on us than we can bare. Look to Him for your strength. Willie Mae left us all with loving memories so lets cherish them and find comfort in knowing that she loved us all. Yes, we will miss her loving smile, her laughter at the family gatherings among many, many other memories she left us with. We know God doesn't make a mistake. He has pick the most beautiful flower from the garden to go with his bouquet of heavenly angels. We know that she was truly an angel in disguise. She would want us to find strength in each other right now. So, Allen and Wilma, especially if you need a friend, an ear or just a shoulder to lean on please allow me to be there for you. To Marion and Jo, Manny, Curt, Ree and Rose, I am here for all of you. I love you all.
Please do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

Someone so special as Willie Mae will never be forgotten and the happiest of times will always be remembered.
I love you family!

To the family with deepest sympathy:
I do not remember Mrs. Hayes, but my mother Elizabeth Carolyn Robinson has worked with Mrs. Hayes at One Hour Martinizer Cleaners for 30 years. My mother stated that Mrs. Hayes use to pick me up from the day care when I was 3 or 4 years old. After hearing my mother speak about what a wonderful person Mrs. Hayes was, I felt like I've known her my entire life. My mother and I would like to let you know that we are praying for you and that Mrs. Hayes will be truly missed by so many people who loved her. God Bless.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the friends and family of Mrs. Hayes. Anytime something like this happens in our town, we are all touched in some way. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Just know that she is now in a much better place, and the memory of her and what she has done will help to get you through this rough time. God bless you all.

Someone so special will never be forgotten and the happiest of times will always be remembered

This senseless act against a wonderful member of our Florence Community moves me to tears. May the angels wrap their loving arms around Mrs. Hayes family and friends and comfort them in their grief.
May you soar with the Angels dear lady!
