William Gordon Bittner September 27, 1928 February 25, 2015 William Gordon Bittner, 86, of Bellefonte, went Home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Bill is predeceased by his first wife, Carroll A. (Boyer) Bittner; his parents, Beatrice (Linn) and Earl Bittner; his brother; Thomas E. Bittner; and sister, Jane Schaub. Bill is survived by his second wife, Doris (Keen) Bittner; his two sons, Tom Bittner (Terri,) of Sanford, Fla. and Doug Bittner (Cindy), of Worcester, Mass.; his two grandchildren and their families, Tammy Oostdyk (Ray), of Vero Beach, Fla. and their children, Matthew, Micah, Josiah and Julia; Tim Bittner (Sarah), of Atlanta, Ga. and their, daughter Amelia. Also surviving Bill are his two step-sons and their families, Jerry Barnhart (Marilyn), of Oxford, Mich. and their children, Brian and Becky; David Barnhart (Becky), of Milesburg and their children, Kim Haynes (Tom), Garret and Lacee; his nieces and nephew, Betsy Danes, of College Station, Texas, Judy Murphey (Elmer), of Dallas, Texas, Jane Boling (John), of Harlingen, Texas and Tom Schaub, of Pascagoula, Miss.; his sisters-in-law, Nanette Immel, of Aaronsburg, Mary Boyer, of Clarksville, Ark.; and his brother-in-law, John Glasgow, Sr., of Millheim. Bill was born September 27, 1928 in Baltimore, Md. and grew up primarily in Jersey Shore. A member of the Jersey Shore High School Class of 1946, Bill went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Lycoming College and a Master's from Penn State. Bill taught eighth grade science for about 35 years at the Jersey Shore Jr. High School, where he was advisor for the Archery and Ski Clubs. He retired in 1990. An Eagle Scout, Bill remained active in scouting his entire life, serving on various Troop and District Committees, and as Assistant Scout Master. For many years, Bill served as Councilman for the Borough of Avis. He was a member of Avis Kiwanis Club. He served on local Ski Patrols. An active outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed archery, hunting, skiing, dry fly fishing, hiking and camping. Bill was a member of the Avis EUB and United Methodist Churches, serving as Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. He is currently a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Bellefonte, serving as Sunday school teacher and choir member. A public visitation will be held Sunday evening, March 1, 2015, 6-8 p.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA, and again Monday, March 2, 2015, 10-11 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes St., Bellefonte, PA 16823. The funeral service will follow visitation at the church, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Jersey Shore Cemetery, Jersey Shore. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., Bellefonte.
