Wilma Rose Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2010.
Wilma F. Rose Wilma Ann Elizabeth Fisher Rose, 102, of Wytheville died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at Carrington Place at Wytheville. Funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Chris Stansell and Don Scott officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Born July 3, 1908, in the Piney area of Wythe County, she was the loving wife of Ellis P. Rose for 60 years until his death on Aug. 7, 1990. They had seven sons, Homer, Andrew, Edward, Franklin, A.C., Delmar and Van. She attended the Piney Mission from early childhood until 1917 when she joined the St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church of Piney where she had been a charter member for life. She devoted her life to faith, hope and charity through her fellowship in her church, her care for her family and she shared joy with a wide circle of friends she called her "Angel Friends." She had lived in many communities during her life, including Kiptopeke (near Chesapeake), Oak Ridge, Tenn., Roanoke and Kingsport, Tenn. She particularly loved her neighbors and her neighborhood in her beloved Wythe County. She faithfully attended church every Sunday. She made the best homemade chocolate pie in the world entirely from scratch. She was preceded in death by five sons, Andrew, Edward, Franklin, A.C. and Delmar. Survivors include her oldest son, Homer Rose and his wife, Diane Rose, of Marietta, Ga., and youngest son, Van Rose, and his wife, Sheila Rose, of Big Stone Gap; two daughters-in-law, Ann Bane and Evelyn Sutphin, both of Wytheville; grandchildren, Frances Lane of Jacksonville, Fla., Sharon Meritt of Suwanne, Ga., Carol Krick of Lawrenceville, Ga., Anable Harden of Max Meadows, Lisa Gibson of Max Meadows. Diane Rose of Tazewell, Vicki Caviness of Max Meadows, Donna Faye Arnold of Wytheville, Rhonda Kaye Akers of Wytheville, Arvin Coy Rose of Wytheville, Teresa Thornton of Pulaski, Derek Rose of Galax, Brandon Andrews, Vinita Andrews and Ben Andrews, all of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Carlton Dewey Fisher of Roanoke and Virgil Fisher of Wytheville; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family thanks family and friends who have blessed Wilma's life and thanks especially thanks the staff of Carrington Place of Wytheville for the care given her and a special thanks to Vicki Lynn Caviness who was a blessed angel to her grandma during her last days. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
