Wilson E Passant Jr. Lieutenant Colonel.USAF (Ret.)
Born September 27, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wilson E Passant Jr. lived over one hundred years before passing away on December 4, 2022, with family at his side.
Wilson was married to his childhood love Bettyjoyce Angstadt Passant for more than 65 years prior to her passing. Together they had two sons, Kip Passant (Melissa) of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Greg Passant (Pat) of Pleasanton, California. Grand Children Kati Passant McDonald (Sean) and Corey Passant (Erin) both of Lake Charles, along with 3 great grandchildren, Zoe, Cooper, and Sage whom he loved so dearly.
Wilson (P-Paw to his grandkids and great grandkids) entered the Army Air Corp during WWII and was a B-17 Pilot flying missions into Germany out of North Africa and Foggia, Italy. Like many from “The Greatest Generation” he never really spoke of his time in combat unless it was a story with a humorous ending. After returning from the war, he went to college on the GI Bill and received a degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Not long after graduating from Drexel he re-enlisted in the US Air Force active reserve, because he loved flying and serving his country. In the 1950’s he was stationed in Guam and flew missions from various south pacific air bases during the Korean war. At the end of the Korean war, he was stationed at several Strategic Air Command (SAC) Airforce bases. At Plattsburgh AFB in upstate New York. he served as the commanding officer of an Atals missile silo during the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis. From Plattsburgh he transferred to Loring Air Force base in Maine where he was promoted to Lt Colonel.
After he retired from active duty in the USAF, he and his family moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island as he wanted his two sons to attend elementary and high school in one place and not be uprooted every few years the way Air Force families were.
Wilson always prioritized service to his country and loving and caring for his family ahead of all other things. He lived life by his rules and not other peoples’ (except those forced on him by the U.S. Military or his wife). Proud and fiercely independent to the end, he was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
The family would like to give a sincere thanks to the nursing and entire staff at the Veranda assistant living facility and Harbor Hospice for the caring and love they shared with him in the final years.
A celebration of life will be held on January 19, 2023 in Lake Charles, LA at a location to be announced at a later date.

I helped your dad as a Visiting Angel companion. what a wonderful man. Seems I was guided here by an ancient email I just found. I'm really grateful I got this opportunity to tell you how bright and funny Will was. He loved his wife and his family. And flying!
I can see him flying now.
Peace

Known to us as 'Uncle Will', he was a remarkable person, always full of stories, opinions and advice delivered with a smile. As the daughter-in-law of Will's older sister, Pat, I was also privy to family stories going back to their childhood in Philadelphia and then decades later of their visits with Pat and Carlos in Maine, England and eventually in Rhode Island. Pat's son, my late husband Mike, was forever in awe of Uncle Will and especially loved his wartime stories. Around 10 years ago, Mike and I visited Uncle Will at his home in California, getting ready for a bicycle ride up the coast to Oregon. Couldn't help but feel how excited he was that we were on such an adventure and drove us up out of the urban area, where we had a farewell lunch. It was the last time we saw him. Farewell, Uncle Will, thank you for your care, your love and your stories. You are flying on to new heights.

An amazing man who raised two amazing sons! I never had the opportunity to meet him yet I think I know alot about him as my father was a military WW2 veteran who also saw action in Europe. I'm sure he was a devoted husband and father who never really thought of himself a hero. Rest in God's favor. Our condolences to Kip and his family.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. My time knowing Wilson was very brief however the few times I had the opportunity to sit at the Lake House and visit with him were so precious. He has so full of life and knowledge that I enjoyed listing to his life stories. He had a great sense of humor and was just such a joy to talk with. Whenever I would see Kip and would always ask " How's your dad doing" and without fail I would get a great story of the how he bought a car or how he was buying things from craigslist or how he would flirt with the nurses at the Doctors office. Truely a legend and it was my honor to have known him if even for such a brief time. Rest in peace and know you will live forever in our hearts and minds. George and Bev Cowie
