Wolfgang Schultz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2008.
SCHULTZ, Dr. Wolfgang Martin Professor Dr. Wolfgang M. Schultz, formerly of Edmonton AB and Germany, passed away peacefully at Hastings Manor, Belleville ON, age 79, after a lengthy journey through Alzheimer's disease. Survived by his first wife of 36 years, Heidi Schultz of Carrying Place, and the dear companion of his later years, Gudrun Maassen of Edmonton. Loving father of Barbara Schultz of Rockcliffe ON, Christine (Earl) Wolff of Belleville, and Dietrich (Mary) Schultz of Foster City, CA. Ever remembered by his grandchildren: Gabriel and Clara Verdon; Hanna, Theodor, and Julia Wolff; Thomas, Sarah, and Bryan Schultz; and Courtney and Rachel Owens. Dear brother of Agnes Smith of Cupertino, CA, Eva Nicola of Monterey, CA, Peter Schultz of Cortland, NY, and Reinhart Schultz of Hamburg, Germany. Predeceased by his sister Annele and his parents Otto and Ingrid Schultz. An avid hiker and nature photographer, dedicated geneologist, and classical music lover, Dr. Schultz overcame early challenges as a youth in war-torn Germany to earn a doctorate in agriculture in Giessen Germany and a PhD in agricultural economics at the Oklahoma State University. Following a fellowship at the South Dakota State University, he was Professor of Rural Economy at the University of Alberta from 1964-1989. He was a deeply caring, thoughtful, and intelligent man who touched many lives. In keeping with Dr. Schultz's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Avenue, Belleville, 613-968-5588.
