Yemiko Rosenow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 1 to Jun. 3, 2022.
Yemiko "Emi" Rosenow reached the end of her incredible life on May 8, 2022, at the age of 95.

Born in Los Angeles on November 8, 1926, the second daughter of five, Emi was raised by her wonderful parents, Kaneyoshi and Kuni. In 1941, at the age of 14, Emi and her family were interned at Manzanar Relocation Camp in Inyo County, California. In 1946, her family was sent to the Tule Lake Internment Camp and then relocated to Kagoshima, Japan. While there, Emi worked to help support her family by getting a job with the US Army as an interpreter. It was there that she met Richard Rosenow, her husband of several years. They married and moved to the United States, where they moved to Washington, and she became the proud mother of her only son, Rick.

Emi began work at Frontier Middle School, where she worked as a librarian and secretary for over 25 years. Her memories of work, those she worked with, and the students of FMS were spoken of with admiration and fondness throughout her life.

Emi valued both languages she spoke, read, and wrote fluently; and loved to share her knowledge with others. Emi taught Japanese at Moses Lake High School to students for several years. She also interpreted for many families of Japan Airlines, and others who needed her help in the community.

Emi was the first chaperone for the Moses Lake and Yonezawa, Japan Sister City Program. Her contributions to the program held great importance to her.

Following Emi's retirement, she loved to crochet, chat on the phone, and spend her time among family. A favorite tradition for many years was Sunday Night Family Dinner, which her family always looked forward to attending. She was a fantastic chef and baker of many cuisines, but especially Japanese and German foods.

She was always available for a chance to spend time with her grandchildren, to whom she was "Baa-chan" (Japanese for Grandmother).

Emi is preceded in death by her parents: Kaneyoshi and Kuni; four sisters: Sachiko, Sumiko, Hisako, and Teruko; and granddaughter, Aubrey. She is survived by her son: Rick Rosenow, of Moses Lake. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Kelsey (Adam), Brooke (Jake), and Jessie; and three great-grandchildren: Tayden, Aubrey, and Brigham. She also leaves behind many other family members and dear friends that will miss her.

By her request, there will be no formal services. She will be interred among family in Los Angeles, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

My sincere condolences. How excited I was to move into her chair at Frontier Junior High School at her retirement. Little did I know she was going to take her chair with her! I was honored to follow in her footsteps. May her legacy of love and compassion for others fill you with peace!
