Mariya,
Do you remember that I first knew Yevgenia when she was a very little girl, at camp. How happy I was when she came to Agnon. She always waved to me in the hall and I watched her grow up and waited for her to get to middle school so I could teach her. What a joy she was. Always smiling and happy. Despite her need to be careful because of her illness, she never missed out on anything. She was such a special person. She was always so thoughtful and so concerned about everyone. And now, I haven't seen her in so long. I thought I saw her at Yom Ha'Atzmaut just a few weeks ago. Is that possible? I saw her across the room and it was so crowded I never got close to her to say hello. And now I only learned of this great tragedy last night. I am devastated. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how close you were and how close she was to her siblings. I am crying for you and will be thinking of you often.

Dear Adam and family members,

I heard the very, very sad news of Yevgenia's passing from Aunt Cindy and Aunt Sue. (I am a friend from way back.) I am so sorry for your loss, and send you prayers of healing and comfort, knowing your love with Yevgenia will never fade.

With deep sympathy,

I still can't believe that Yevgenia is gone. I met her my freshman year of college, and she helped me through a really hard time. She was one of the few people I knew who just really genuinely cared about EVERYONE. I haven't spoken to her in years, but it really feels like the world has lost some of its brightness without her. She will be missed, probably by everyone who was ever lucky enough to know her. My heart goes out to her family and close friends.

Dear Family of Yevgenia: We will always call Yevgenia "Morah Probst" with great admiration, appreciation and love. She was a wonderful teacher and great lover of children. Her Judaic lessons to our daughter will always be remembered, and will be shared with generations to come. Thank you for sharing Morah Probst with us!

Leonid, Maria, Adam, Elvera and Alisa. Please accept my deepest condolences. I knew Yevgenia since she was a teenager, and we sparsely kept in touch though the years. There are many episodic memories. It is very hard to make sense of this loss. To celebrate her life I will remember to add beauty to this world through kindness and care for other people, like she did. And through this, she continues to live.

My heart goes out to the Baron and Probst families, I am so sorry for your loss. Yevgenia was a bright spot in our high school class, bringing cheer to those around her and always ready to help others, whether it was adding thoughtfulness and insight to our discussions, through her dedicated work behind the scenes at the Hawken musicals, or adding her own music to the band and singing softly in the halls during our free time. She was warm-hearted, joyful, and extremely generous woman. We will miss her dearly, and I pray that your family will be comforted at this time knowing how loved and cherished Yevgenia was and what joy she brought to us.

Dear Adam and Baron Family,
We want to extend our deepest sorrow at the loss of Yevgenia. The void that you feel is indescribable in words. The only hope is in all the memories that you can share. Although I was not a close friend, she had a big impact on me. I do have memories that I would like to share.
Every Shabbat that you and Yevgenia came to services, I would notice you. You, tall and handsome and her fair skinned, with her beautiful red hair covered by a stylish hat, wearing yet another sophisticated stylish outfit. Yet this did not change my image of her as a teenage girl. We exchanged “Shabbat Shalom” greetings, but that was all.
Then a few years ago, we were together at a Succoth dinner at the Gelles family home. The conversation at one point turned to romance and marriages. You and Yevgenia began to tell the story of your romance and engagement. Detail upon detail. I have forgotten the specifics but I remember it had to do with an element of surprise about the ring and the proposal. I remember that, as you spoke, it was as if we were all witnesses to the event happening. There was a joy and light in both you and Yyegenia, as if that moment in time was a bit of heavenly delight.
As I learned of Yegenia's background, I spoke to her of my teaching English as a Second Language in the Mayfield School District. When I told her of my struggling students who had no alternative but to attend all their math and science classes in English, she agreed to come to the class to volunteer with the Russian speaking students to help them. She came for an entire year, usually once a week in the morning, devoting herself to the kids. I was an experienced ESL teacher anxious about the lack of progress of my students, but she calmly reassured me by telling me her story: of coming here and learning English and becoming a successful financial planner. I was impressed not only by her skills but with her compassion. The kids adored her, she was young, beautiful and open; they identified with her. When she told me that she would be starting a position downtown and be unable to come, both the kids and I were devastated. I remember my astonishment that this young woman was taking on such a prestigious position. But her age and demeanor did not preclude her having skills in math and the business world. When she asked me to be my consultant I was sorry that I could not oblige. I did not doubt her wisdom, but my finances did not warrant such talents.
The Purim party that Yevgenia organized and facilitated for Beth- El – The Heights Synagogue was one of the most enjoyable I ever attended. It had her combination of intellect and wit. “Who stole the humantaschen” was a mystery to me. The smoothness and finesse with which she pulled off the event was spectacular. I can see her now standing before the congregation telling us the rules of the game and then later announcing the winners, one of them being Bud. She would mention Bud's prowess at the game for weeks after this.
When Jamie was about to give birth, I got a call from Yevgenia. She knew I am Jamie's aunt, she asked me what guests she should invite to the baby shower that she planned in honor of the upcoming arrival. She had the whole event planned: food, guest list, activities, and I am sure she would have been a gracious hostess, had Jamie not given birth to Yakov before the party could take place. It was her enthusiasm and joy in planning the simcha event that impressed me.
She was a person who lights up a room and we will miss her presence.
With deepest sympathy, Honey Massey and Bud Stern

What a shock to learn of Yevgenia's passing. She was my undergraduate student in several classes and we often spoke of the strength of biblical women. Yevgenia had that divine strength herself. She lived every moment to the fullest, squeezing joy even out of the rainiest days. She had a serenity and faith about her future that inspired me. I shall remember her with joy.
