Our encounter was a brief but a tremendously impactful one for me. I was a graduating undergraduate and you were doing PhD. We had just met, and you took interest in my art. You bought all my paintings that I exhibited and offered me the money I needed to travel to a country where I wanted to further my art study. My heart was always filled with pride when I remembered how much you appreciated my art. Your generosity and openness will always inspire me. Thank you unni.

These sixteen years, I had remembered Dr. Yoonmee Chang as a beautifully vibrant person, who had role modeled for me academic job finalist behavior. She was greater than the Asian American model minority stereotype, and her human warmth and resilience were so inspirational. I know that somewhere within the stardrift, she had heard me give voice to her poem "Lines" at the 10/13/18 "Speaking from the Middle" reading of Asian American writers at The Bishop in Bloomington, Indiana.

I will miss Yoonmee every day for the rest of my life. She was so bright, so self confident and so funny. What a tragic loss for us all. RIP YC.

Hard to believe a spirit as bright and happy as yours has been dimmed. Your smile and humor were uniquely yours and you will be sorely missed by all your running family. It was a pleasure spending your last vacations together. Despite what was going on in your body unbenownst to you- you completed a marathon in Madagascar despite feeling so ill. You were an inspiration then, and will always be forever. It was a pleasure to have been your friend
