YURIKO YAMAMOTO FURUYA
Sadly, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, Yuriko "Polly" Yamamoto Furuya, passed away on April 17, 2009. She was 100 years old. Born on June 14, 1908 in Honolulu, Hawaii. "Polly" as she was known in her days at Punahou, is survived by children Dorothy Furuya Eilenberg and Clarence O. Furuya, both of Honolulu.
Also in survival are her grandchildren Kiana (Diane) Gentry, Cheryl Ann Smith and Karen Devaki Dharano, great-granddaughters, Angel Vardas and Kimberly Slagle, and great-grandson, Everett Hetzel Jr.; great-great-granddaughter, Hailey Slagle.
Yuriko spent all her years as a student of Punahou School, and studied piano under Florence Bocco Johnson and Elsa Cross Basler of Honolulu. Thereafter she studied under Wagner Swayne, students of renowned Lesthititzsky.
Yuriko was an active supporter of the Honolulu Symphony, Morning Music Club and the Duo-Piano Club.
She led an interesting life, remodeling and decorating the homes in which she and husband George lived. She taught piano and pursued both music and the arts in a career that spanned over 30 years. We will always hold Yuriko in our hearts and love her dearly forever.
