Yvonne Keeton Underwood

Yvonne Keeton Underwood, age 76, of Tuscumbia, died Monday, Aprl 13, 2009. Her family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, of Tuscumbia. Mrs. Underwood will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. The Rev. Mike Pope will officiate, and burial will follow in Tuscumbia Oakwood Cemetery.

Yvonne was a native of Cherokee, a member of First United Methodist Church, of Tuscumbia, where she was a member of the Ethel Gary Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was employed with First National Bank, of Tuscumbia, for a number of years and retired from the Colbert County Probate Judge's office. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Covenant Christian School, where she taught kindergartners to read, and they affectionately called her Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lenise Keeton, and husband, William H. Underwood Jr.

She is survived by her sons, Lance Underwood, of Leighton, John W. Underwood (Stephanie), of Tuscumbia; brothers, Rex Keeton (Elizabeth), of Sheffield, Howard Keeton (Shirley), of Cherokee; grandchildren, Jason Underwood (Sabrina), Jami Underwood, Destin Underwood, Kelsey Underwood, Austin Underwood; one great-grandchild, William Paul Underwood; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Gardiner.

Pallbearers are Neal Keeton, Jimmy Gardiner, Harry Gardiner, Buddy Keeton, Sam Williams, J. Gardiner, Rick and Michael Owen.

Honorary pallbearers are the men of Ethel Gary Sunday School Class, Lane Keeton, Les McCollough and Buddy Dover.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, of Tuscumbia, or Covenant Christian School.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Patrick Daugherty, Dr. Joshua Vacik, the staff of PCU at Helen Keller Hospital and all her special friends at First United Methodist Church, of Tuscumbia.
