Zachariah Bolster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2022.
Zachariah "Zach" I. Bolster (1995-2022)

Died suddenly in a tragic speed flying accident in the Colorado mountains on August 27th.

Zach strived to live life to its fullest. He grew up in Cedar City, Utah. He was always seeking for adventure and making the most of his life. He loved snowboarding, surfing, dirt biking, parachuting, scuba diving, and other thrilling activities. At 18 years old he decided to serve his country and joined the United States Navy. He found joy in his decorated and distinguished service in the Navy for nearly eight years. In that time, he served with the Naval Special Warfare Development Group taking part in incredible missions and faithfully carrying out his duties. While in the Navy he met his wonderful girlfriend of two years, Melissa Anderson. He was intelligent and well accomplished in his education. He attended esteemed schools, receiving his bachelor's degree from Penn State University, and was actively pursuing his master's degree in Cybersecurity at Brown University, an Ivy League institution. He was already an adept professional in this industry working as the Division Manager of Cybersecurity Operations for the City of Lakewood, Colorado.

He was fearless. Always viewing a challenge as an opportunity to grow and experience something new. But he didn't take himself too seriously. He could often be seen in his signature crocs, with his t-shirt depicting a dinosaur pouring a drink out saying: "One for the homies." He loved life and loved those who were a part of his.

He was a devoted son, brother, and friend. He was loved dearly by his father Daniel Bolster, his mother Sharon Bolster, his brothers Trenton and Brandon (girlfriend Karin Healy), and all those who served with him. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Please do not send any flowers. Instead, make a donation to: The Navy SEAL Foundation in Zach's name, Thank you.

I was in the same bootcamp division as Zach and was in the same special programs pipeline as him at the beginning of both our careers in the Navy. After I left that I ran back into him when we were stationed at the same command in Virginia Beach. He was a tremendous dude and just an absolute pleasure to know him. My deepest condolences go out to his family.

You were honored by TAPS.Org at the WWI national monument in Washington DC on 12/04/24, your 29th birthday. It was a beautiful tribute and one of your friends from EOD/Gold was there to honor you and take pictures for us. After the ceremony we released a balloon to heaven for you. As the balloon drifted away, a Monarch butterfly circled us. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU MORE THAN WORDS CAN EXPRESS. Our hearts ache everyday for you. We will always tell others of your courage and bravery until we meet again. Forever with love, Mom, Dad, Brandon, Trent, Karin

We met on a deployment. Immediately became friends. He was an amazing guy. Was extremely passionate about his job. Loved to have a good time, but knew when to be professional. Learned a-lot from him. Going to miss hearing him talk about his long hair haha. I was suppose to meet him in VB but work never let it happen. He was the best among us. Going to miss him.

Its been 6 months and I visited your memorial as I do weekly. Today there was a bluebird watching over you and visiting me. A storm was blowing in hard through the canyon, it was starting to snow. This bluebird stayed on the ground, feathers ruffled in the wind, and was the only bird in the cemetery. He was fearless, just like you.
Bluebirds are a sign from heaven, a messenger, sent from our guardian angel to let us know that we are loved and you are at peace. Thank you for this sign. As we always said to each other, "I love you, See you soon", Mom

Thank you everyone for posting on Zachs site. It means so much to our family to read your words of love. He will forever be in our hearts and his wonderful memories live on in our lives. Thank you to Melissa and her family, along with Griff, Dan, and Justin for being there with us as Zach flew one more time; over the mountains of Southern Utah where he loved and grew up. We love you all, thank you for loving our son.

Zachariah Isaiah,
How do I encapsulate who you were and the forever impact you have left on me? I tried to think back to one memory to summarize us but you will never be just one memory. You are the man who gave me your pillow and sleeping pad while backpacking in Shenandoah because you were always the one who was prepared, not me. You were the one who first said "I love you" while we were in the Outer Banks. You were my first love. You showed me what true love is supposed to look like. Your love was patient. You love was kind. Your love was unconditional. Although at times we were apart due to military obligations our hearts were always together. You were my favorite hello and my hardest goodbye. I was so excited for our future together even if it included a van. I´ll hold close the big trips and one of a kind moments, but my favorite moments were waking up by your side.

But beyond this you were more than my first love you were my best friend and my person. There were no emotion I felt that you weren´t the first person I wanted to share it with. Joy was multiplied with you, sadness was cushioned, and anxiety was eased You weren´t afraid to keep me honest, you weren´t afraid to tell me what I was bad at, which I was too stubborn to admit made me love you more. Your masculinity wasn´t so fragile that you couldn´t be my voice of reason when I couldn´t decide on a dress to buy. You were the life the party who´s lightheartedness and goofiness was infectious. I would often find you dancing through the bar, completely sober mind you, wearing your dinosaur shirt, Birkenstocks and my purse draped over your shoulder without a care in the world. I was so proud to be yours.

You were the definition of humility. The value you brought to the special warfare community was abundant and evident by those standing with us here today. You had such a contagious passion and innocent joy for capturing knowledge, whether it be at Brown, Penn State, or your own backyard. You didn´t boast, you didn´t preach, but the example you lived left those around wanting to better themselves. You pushed me to strive for more and gave me the confidence to do so in my career. Our future was so bright together.

Now that you´re gone, I feel half of my heart is missing. But I will never regret loving you and walking this world together side by side, hand in hand. Until we meet again Zachariah, I´ll love you forever and always

With gratitude and appreciation I would like to thank everyone for sharing their stories and love on this site. Thank you to everyone who traveled to his funeral and celebration of life. We sincerely appreciate the love and honor shown to our son, Zach. My dear friend Erica climbed a mountain in his honor yesterday and placed his name on the mountain. It meant a lot so I am sharing this picture. His spirit lives on in each life he touched, but his legacy lives on as he made a difference on this earth.

With gratitude we sincerely appreciate the warm and wonderful memories shared of our son. Riding mountain bikes in the rain, paddle boarding in a lake, snowboarding the back country, hiking in the Smokies, surfing VB, riding his Kawi motorcycles, scuba diving the Keys, skydiving VB, speed flying Breck and courageous missions for DEVGRU; Zach was fearless, but most importantly he met and made terrific friends through his adventures. Thank you all for sharing your memories, it makes our hearts smile and brings us comfort. With love, Zachs mom
