Zachary Winkler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 6 to Jan. 8, 2010.
WINKLER , Zachary Georg June 19, 1990 - January 1, 2010 After a courageous battle with cancer Zachary, beloved son of Robert and Zoe Winkler, passed away at home where he most wanted to be. Zachary appreciated and sought to enjoy every day he had, and took pleasure in even the simplest things. He especially enjoyed spending time socializing with friends and family. He touched so many people throughout his life, from teachers that wondered how anyone could be angry with those big puppy dog eyes and anyone who saw him play soccer, at one game scoring from the opening kickoff, the assistant principal and some of the teaching staff at Father Lacombe High School who went way, way beyond their job descriptions to allow him to walk the stage at his graduation, or to the doctors and nurses that were so impressed with his bravery and continuously optimistic attitude. Zachary was predeceased by his Grandpa Smith and his cousin Brendan. He will be forever in the hearts of his Mom and Dad; his brothers, Joshua and Matthew; and his sister Jessica; as well as Grandpa and Grandma Winkler, Grandma Smith and Uncle Jan, and all of his aunts, uncles and cousins. From the age of about ten, one of Zack's favourite songs was Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World", so please in his memory, enjoy this wonderful world and value every minute. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark's Catholic Church (5552 Madigan Drive N.E.) on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Provincial Office, Sun Life Place, 710, 10123 - 99 Street, Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1 (Telephone 1-866-412-4222) or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 (Telephone 403-521-3433). In living memory of Zachary Winkler, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E. To the Winkler Family-

Please accept my sincere condolences. Zach was a student in my Gr.12 T.A. at Father Lacombe High School. I have fond memories of him as a polite and kind student with a wonderful sense of humour. I was so proud to escort him on stage on the day of his Gr.12 graduation. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Rob and Zoe

We are just devastated with the loss of Zach.

He was always such a wonderful boy whom we adored and loved. Especially his sense of humor and wit, no one was a match to him. A truly genuine person.

The friendship that Stevahn had with Zach will always be cherished by him. He will always be his Best Friend.

Our love and prayers go to you and your family at this time.

Thinking of you always.
Chris, Heather, Stevahn and Caelahn

We are very saddened to know that your son Zach has passed on. I have special memories of Zach as a little boy that I babysat on occassion and when our kids played together. Words cannot express the feelings we all go through in the loss of a loved one. May the faith of God, and the love from family and friends give you strength and courage in the days ahead. We have all lost an amazing friend and person who will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. His fun loving ways and singing of "Rock Star" with the boys chillin' upstairs has made it too quiet here. We are hoping he is rocking and rolling to a more peaceful beat.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this most trying of times and know that Zach's memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.

May God bless and keep you in His heart
