ZoeAnn Shaub Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 19, 2017.
ZoeAnn Shaub, March 1, 1934 – September 13, 2017

Twin Falls – ZoeAnn Shaub died on September 13, 2017 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

ZoeAnn was born March 1, 1934 in Twin Falls Idaho to George & Ethel Warberg, along with her twin sister SaraLee (Sally.) ZoeAnn and Sally also had older twin siblings, William and Willetta. She grew up in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1952. That same year she was crowned the first Miss Twin Falls. She went on to win the title of Miss Idaho and participated in the Miss America pageant, where she won a scholarship in the talent portion for her speech. With an interest in law, ZoeAnn worked for an attorney while in high school with the dream of becoming a lawyer. She used scholarship money from the pageants to earn her degree, attending junior college at the College of Idaho and finishing her degree at Linfield College. ZoeAnn went on to law school at Stanford University. She was 1 of 6 women in her class and became the first female probate judge in Twin Falls County at the age of 26.

She met her husband, Dr. Roy O. Shaub, while skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho and they married in 1962. They had three children, Timothy, Suzanne, and Jill. After 8 years on the bench, she decided to stay home and raise her children. The family enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and skiing and spent a great deal of time at their second home in Ketchum. The Shaub's shared many memorable vacations with their lifelong friends, Harold & Thelma Brown. ZoeAnn and Roy also enjoyed hosting friends at the Sun Valley Jazz Festival. She loved to cook and collect antiques.

ZoeAnn was actively involved in the community over the years, serving on the board of United Way, YMCA and various other organizations. She was also a member of PEO. She had a love of music, especially classical. She spent hours on end playing the piano throughout her lifetime. She shared her love of music with her daughters, who also played the piano as children. While raising her children, she took a brief hiatus from playing the piano, but when the children were grown, she took it up again and began taking piano lessons from her lifelong friend Teala Percin. ZoeAnn was very active. She and Roy played tennis with friends and she also walked many miles around the mall with Sally and with dear friend Karla Broeder around the neighborhood.

ZoeAnn was very accomplished and played so many roles throughout her lifetime; devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, judge, mentor, neighbor and friend. She touched many lives and we've heard countless stories from people whose lives she impacted while she was a judge or when she volunteered for the pageants. She will always be remembered by those she knew and loved.

ZoeAnn was preceded in death by her parents, George Warberg and Ethel Chandler; husband Roy Shaub and brother William Warberg. She is survived by her sisters SaraLee Warberg and Willetta Warberg; children Timothy Shaub, Suzanne (Brian) Cavanagh and Jill (Dave) Elam; grandchildren Heather Callen, Joel & Dylan Shaub, Henry & Scott Cavanagh, and Hunter & Cooper Elam.

A celebration of ZoeAnn's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, 2466 Addison Ave. East in Twin Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice in her honor. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff at services.

A beautiful soul as was Roy. I always enjoyed a spirited debate on many subjects with her as I did with her father when we went and drowned some worms now and then. A true standout of the Warberg family of which I'm very proud to be a small part of. My love to all who were close to her.

My sincere condolences to you on this sad occasion. Zoe Ann and Roy were the first couple to be our friends when we moved to Idaho. I always admired Zoe Ann for her independence, intelligence, and beauty. I will always remember our fun skiing and enjoying Zoe Ann's cooking. Many good memories of a wonderful person. Edward Hunt

Our condolences to your family. What a terrible shock for you. She was one of my best friends. We had so much fun living next door. We went to sales to find treasures, played bridge with our husbands and put up with the constant hunting in the fall and many other memorable times. Jill you look so much like her and sounded like her on the phone. I have a hard time getting her out of my mind.

Suzy, my deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of you mother. I am inspired by her accomplishments at a time when this was not the norm for women. This shows a very determined spirit which she obviously passed down to you. I can see now where you get it from. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
