Zona Sigfridson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 20, 2018.
Zona Gale (Espe) Sigfridson, of Phoenix, Arizona was born on August 3, 1935 in Bode, Iowa, to the late Magna and Harold Espe. Zona peacefully made her transition at age 83 on September 9, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. Zona was laid to rest at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona on September 22, 2018.

Zona grew up in Deer Park, Wisconsin on a small family dairy farm. Zona was a proud graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota where she earned her nursing degree. She served as a Registered Nurse at Bethesda Hospital until she met the love of her life, the late Darrell Dean Sigfridson, on a blind date. In 1961, Zona and Darrell decided to get to warmer weather and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Together they raised two daughters and delighted in their three grandchildren. When they needed to escape the heat, they retreated to their family cabin in Prescott, Arizona. They also loved to travel and she always announced to the tour group that she was Zona from Arizona!

For the twelve years they were apart, Zona resided at the Beatitudes Senior Living Campus where she was very popular and well cared for. The nurses often said they wished they could have worked for her when she was head nurse. Zona would often let them know they were doing a good job when she observed them caring for other residents.

Zona was preceded in death by her brother, Milton "Bud" Espe; and sister, Veloyce Kelly. She is survived by her daughters, Kristine and Kimberly; and grandchildren, Peyton, Allora, and Haley.

While her bright blue eyes, ever smiling face, and kisses and hugs will be dearly missed, her family is pleased Zona and Darrell are back together again. They truly have two hearts that beat as one. And with all her memories back, she has a lot to talk with Darrell about!

Dear Aunt Zona and Uncle Darrell welcomed me into their home in 1969 when I was a freshman at ASU. They hosted me many times for Thanksgiving and other dinners-and they often served my favorite meal: ham, scalloped potatoes and green bean casserole! Some years later we met up in Napa, CA and had a lovely lunch, and again after Silka was born, they came to visit Mom and Aunt Zona delighted in holding baby Silka on her lap. I will look for the photo... Always kind and welcoming, always funny and smart. That was Aunt Zona.

I had a wonderful time with you, Zona, on your dairy farm near Deer Park, Wisconsin, the summer of 1953 after we both had graduated from our respective high school, mine was in Bode, Iowa, your old stomping ground. You were a wonderful cousin and friend. I loved you. Your cousin, Shirley Rood Carson

What an amazing woman. She was s second mom to me while I lived in Arizona. She loved everyone unconditionally. Her guidance , love and support was her largest strength. She will be loved and missed by all. So glad I had the opportunity to be a part of her life. Rest In Peace Zona. May you and Darryl find happiness in heaven.
