Duane Daniels

1941 - 2017

TECUMSEH - Duane Richard Daniels, age 75, passed away April 10, 2017, in Tecumseh.

He was born to Loren "Sam" and Beatrice (Munger) Daniels on Dec. 30, 1941, in Michigan City, Ind. Duane went to several one-room schools in Lenawee County then graduated in 1960 from Huron River High School, playing basketball and running track. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64, during the Vietnam War, aboard the USS Oriskany. Following his discharge, Duane became a fireman for the North Las Vegas Fire Department, where he was a member for 20 years, many of them as a captain.

He also was a firefighter at the nuclear test site in Nevada for several years and in Saudia Arabia for one year. He enjoyed traveling, coming back to the farm in Michigan to see family and friends, and old movies, including westerns and "Forrest Gump." Duane will be remembered for his faith, his sense of humor and joyful laugh, his love, sensitivity, and concern for others.

Duane is survived by his children, Mike, Jessica, Sarah and Deana Daniels; his sisters, Jeanette (Fred) Feight and Candace Pearce; his stepsisters, Marge Rourke, Fran Stevenson and Linda Fischer; and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; the children's mother, Sharon Daniels; his son, Matt Daniels; his brothers, Dale and Don Daniels and Jack Rourke; his sister-in-law, Joy (Don) Daniels; and his niece, Dawn (Dan) Brooks.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
