Harriet DeVantier Obituary

BLISSFIELD - Harriet Allen DeVantier, 85, of Blissfield went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Dec. 4, 2017, at Charlotte Stephenson Manor, surrounded by her family.  
Harriet was born on Aug. 14, 1932, to Alfred and Louise Landres in New York City, N.Y. On July 2 1955, in Lewiston, N.Y., she married Vernon DeVantier.
She received a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State University in New York in 1954. She taught home economics in Fort Wayne, Ind., and at Blissfield Middle and High School. She retired from Blissfield Schools.
She found great joy in serving alongside her husband at Bethlehem and St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Defiance, Ohio, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blissfield, Mich., and Zion Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Mich. She led church Bible studies, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, and was active in the women's circle and the Alpha program.
Most recently, she was an active member at St. Michael Lutheran Church, Ottawa Lake, Mich.   
She is survived by one son, James (Michelle) DeVantier of Blissfield; and three daughters, Louise (Gregory) Solak of St. Joseph, Mich., Deborah (Paul) Onweller of Swanton, Ohio; and Barbara (Ronald) Schmidt of Blissfield. Harriet was a wonderful grandmother to Matthew and Michael Solak, Erica and David DeVantier, Lindsay (Terence) Weigand, Kelly Kimmelman, James (Kelsey) Kimmelman, Katie (Brad) Heineman, Amy (Aaron) Wielfaert, Eric (Becky) Schmidt and Anna Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Ava and Jeremiah Wielfaert and Tenley and Decker Weigand. She is also survived by her two sisters, Anna Baker of Portland, Maine; and Susan Alter of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; and many other wonderful relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Vernon DeVantier, and her parents.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield, and on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 10 until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 5790 West Temperance Road, Ottawa Lake. Pastor Mark D. Gibbs will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield.
