John Frayer Obituary

ADRIAN - John Howard Frayer, age 67, of Adrian passed Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at his home.

John was born March 7, 1953, in Adrian to Howard and Rachel (Beal) Frayer. He attended the Howe Military School until his accident in early life. John was a graduate of Siena Heights University and the Michigan State University. Despite having mobility issues, nothing ever slowed him down in farming or life.

John loved to turn everything into a song lyric. He loved collecting and playing the guitar. John had an excellent work ethic. He served on the board of the Madison Township Cemetery. John enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. Above all else, friends were his family and he loved to attend his grandchildren's sporting events.

John is survived by his "daughter" Koleen (Mike) Shadewald; grandchildren, Payton Woodard, Ethan Woodard and Kylie Van Zweeden, along with many dear friends that John considered family.

John is preceded in death by his parents, and a step-grandson Trey Freeman.

Funeral Services for John will be held privately. Visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will be held as John would want it to be, fashionably late at Madison Township Cemetery, at a later date and time.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing regulations, only a limited number of individuals will be allowed in the chapel at a time and face coverings are required.

Memorial contributions in John's memory can be made to either The Disabled Veterans of America or to Siena Heights University. You may send condolences to the family/friends at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.

When I think of John I first picture him as a little boy, the smartest one I ever knew, adored by his loving parents and everyone else. He could recite, sing, was sharp as a tack. I first met my little cousin when he was about two or three years old when we returned to visit relatives in Michigan one summer. We were all charmed by him then, and impressed throughout his life by his many accomplishments. He was loved by all. Rest in peace, John.

John, you will be missed. Thanks for all the good times at Howe and your friendship for over 50 years. I especially enjoyed riding with you in the cab of your John Deere tractor talking and laughing while you harvested corn. I will think of you often you were a truly a good and kind man. R.I.P.

John and I were cousins through our fathers Howard and Gerald Frayer. When we were little we saw each other most every summer as my family would come back home to Deerfield on vacation. Always a great kid,John grew up to be an incredible man who was wicked smart and sophisticated as well as grounded to farming and friends.John had a great voice , a genuine smile and a laugh that was natural ,reassuring . You could talk with John in-depth for hours or be quiet together, all good company. He was an artist at being in the moment. He had a natural affinity for the farm, and supported the history binding his family and other locals to theirs. He helped with upkeep on the old cemetery, would drive north many years at Christmas and buy lots of trees and give them to local groups so kids could raise money. Loved loved loved playing and being part of music. Will always remember his dogs, especially Bubba. The incredible pig roasts he threw over the years were a blast. He was good to his folks . He wrote a loving obituary for his mom, she’d made a good life for herself but John brought her so much joy. Thanks John for being such a genuine person, you were a strong man and the kindest one I’ve ever known. Hoping in heaven you get to super car races, to sit in with every band you’ve loved and whatever else you want. Love you John,, Mary Kay Frayer and family, Taos, New Mexico. May you go in peace John
