Dick and Lilis were good personal friends for many years. When I operated, Dick was my first choice as anaesthologist, took wonderful care of my patients while they were asleep during surgery. Lillis was my pipe organ teacher for several years. We miss them both.

The Gilmartins are a big part of who I am today. I arrived from Nigeria in 1977, to attend The University of Michigan Engineering School, and they showed me such love and kindness, during the 1 week I stayed with them, as my host family. They showed me that unique American hospitality, treating me just like their kids. And over the years, the relationship was maintained, even after I moved away from Michigan to New York City. My son referred to Dr. and Mrs. Gilmartin as grandpa and grandma, respectively. My condolences to Mrs. Gilmartin, Jim and Amy. May his soul rest in perfect peace and may the Lord be with us all.

Dick was a kind, caring, ethical and generous man who will be missed by many. When I worked for him about 50 years ago, I learned those things about him as well as what an excellent physician he was. My condolences to Lillis, Amy and Jim, plus all his doggie friends.

Dr. Gilmartin was our family doctor, and he took great care of us. He was also a good friend, ever ready to join an impromptu softball game or hit for a while on the tennis court. Perhaps his greatest attribute, to me anyway, is that he was also an excellent correspondent. I reached out to him a couple of times as an adult for his perspective when I'd hit a rough patch in the road. He responded with words of wisdom and advice that helped a lot. I'm forever grateful for that. God bless you, Dick, and my deepest condolences to Lillis, Amy and Jim.

Sending gratitude for the caring life of your beloved husband, Lillis and your amazing father, Amy and Jim. Am sorry that I was not able to see all of you when I was in Adrian in May but I have been holding you in prayer from my home here in the northern highlands of Nicaragua. We are so thankful for your support of us here in the Casa Materna.

Dear Mrs. Gilmartin, Jim, and Amy,
We will miss your dad. Believe it or not, one of my best memories was when I crashed into the tree next to your house while sledding and broke my leg. I was only in Kindergarten, but, he took such good care of me. He told me how to use a butter knife to scratch my leg under the cast! We enjoyed getting together a few years ago in Kalamazoo to watch tennis, and hit a few balls between matches. Your dad was always very friendly and I'm glad he got to meet my family. I have nothing but fond memories and great respect for your dad. We are thinking about you.
