Born on a couch in Fernandina Beach, Florida on August 10, 1934, and passed surrounded by friends and family at Haven Hospice on December 2, 2025.
David "Pops" G. Stone, Sr. graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in education. He was an educator being the principal at Chiefland elementary and later the night school helping many with their GED's, a soldier, first rate gunsmith, and bail bondsman. He was a man of much wisdom and had an impact on many lives during his 91 years.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Deborah, son David G. Stone, Jr (Lisa), stepdaughters Honey Cross, Dannah Lewis-Livingston, grandchildren David III, Jarred (Rose), Christinah (Jordan), Bryan (Haley), Evan (Sara) and eight great-grandchildren, five nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 23 years Elizabeth Boys Stone, daughters Elizabeth, Paulina "Pookie," parents Hyman "Snap" Fitzhugh and Bertha Stone, brother Hugh, sister Betty, a semi-truckload of doves, a pickup full of quail, a good many ducks, some deer, and a big ol' bar hog that he wasn't sure if it was his old 50/70 or the tree it ran in to that got him.
A memorial service to honor Mr. Stone was held at 11am on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Weems & Sons Funeral Home, 715 West Park Avenue, Chiefland, FL 32626. The family received friends for a visitation at 10:30 am.
