John James McIntosh, known as Jack Mc to family and friends, was born to Babe and Bill McIntosh from Coffee Creek, Montana. Jack was raised on the family farm near the Arrow Creek breaks and grew up working hard on all of the farm activities; haying, harvesting, calving, gardening, berry picking, cow milking and shop work. He taught himself to read at age 4 and attended Denton Public School. Jack was an original person. He attended Montana State University, was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Anthropology. He then studied for his MBA at San Francisco State University while having a great time living in Alameda and riding his motorcycle over the bay bridge to attend classes.
Jack then returned to Montana and farming. He was a very skilled arborist and horticulturalist but his true love was reading. If a book was mentioned to him, he'd say, 'yes, read that a couple of years ago.' The stock market was also a very successful endeavor for Jack. He was a historian of note with an understanding of world events not known to many.
Jack did not marry or have kids; however, his nieces and nephews describe him wonderfully well. They describe his calming presence and intelligence, his patience with animals, his being a patient teacher in the kitchen, in the garden and across the table with a hand of pinochle. Also, he was generous, unless there was just one last slice of raisin cream pie. As a brother, Jack was a gift to his three sisters. All in all, family and friends describe him as being measured, thoughtful, and genuine. Jack passed away June 27, 2025.
Jack is survived by his sisters: MaryLynn Donnelly (beloved sissus), Pati Jense (Fred), Pam Linker (Dave); numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He had especially close relationships with his nephew, K.K. Jense, cousin, Curt Hershberger and dear friend, Tom Shaughnessy.
A graveside service will be held at Jack's farm North of Denton on September 20, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., with reception to celebrate Jack's life at the Denton town hall following.
Memorials in Jack's honor can be made to the Denton EMS or Denton Endowment Fund.
