Patrick Curran Obituary

Hon. Patrick J.T. Curran, Ph.D., died on August 11 in Fall River, Mass. at 92 years old. He met Eileen Gallagher while they studied at Fordham University and were married for 60 years when she died in 2020. In addition to Fordham, he was an alumnus of Cardinal Hayes High School, Columbia University and the University of North Texas.

For 27 years, Pat taught Social Studies to 7th grade students at Islip Middle School in Islip, N.Y. He & Eileen then relocated from Rockville Centre, N.Y. to Las Cruces, N.M., where he was twice elected as a magistrate judge for Doña Ana County.

After moving to Dartmouth, Mass., Pat became a volunteer at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center. He was an active member of the New Bedford Coin Club and the Knights of Columbus. He held the title of Knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

He is survived by his children, Kevin (Dawn Nici), Catharine (Tony Urbano), Thomas (Connie Eng), and Terence, Sr (Mary). Pat was also the grandfather of 23 and soon to be great-grandfather of 13. Additional survivors include his friend, Catherine Marino.

A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd, Dartmouth, Mass. on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Internment will be at the Holy Cross Columbarium in Las Cruces at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Greater Boston Food Bank or a local chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
