ROUNDHEAD -- Allen Reed Cox, 77, of Roundhead, OH, passed away in his sleep early Friday morning, June 6, 2025, at his home after being in the hospital over the last several weeks.
Reed was born on August 4, 1947, in Kenton, OH, a son of the late Howard and Frances (Reed) Cox. He is preceded in death by a son, Andrew Reed Cox, a sister, Peggy Badertscher and a brother, Jim Cox.
Reed married Marsha Vertner at the Waynesfield United Methodist Church on August 9, 1969, and she survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Erin (Jeff) Brown of Orient, OH, five grandchildren, Monica Cox, Mackenzie (TreVon) Haygood, Alexis Brown, Alyssa Brown, Austin Brown, four great grandchildren, Cambryn, Lorenzo, Emerson, and Andie, a brother, Gene Cox of Waynesfield, OH, and several nieces and nephews.
Reed was a 1965 graduate of Roundhead High School. He was a United States Army veteran serving during Vietnam. Reed retired from ODOT in 2009 after 30 plus years of service. He was a life member of Roundhead VFW Post #8832 and Wapakoneta VFW Post #8445, and a member of the NRA. Reed was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed watching old movies, especially westerns, reading, and mowing the yard. Reed loved spending time with his family. Reed and his family are forever grateful for the gift of a donor kidney 17 years ago from his former daughter-in-law, Carrie Sargent.
Pastor David Holbrook will begin funeral services at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview. Visitation is Wednesday, June 11th from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roundhead Cemetery with military honors performed by the Wapakoneta VFW Post #8445 honor guard.
