Billy AULT Obituary

Passed away peacefully at home in Santa Rosa on June 8, 2012 from cancer at the age of 69. Beloved and adored father of Ryan Dixon Ault and Catherine Alice Ault; dear friend of former wife Martha J. Bodell. Born in Omaha, NE on October 13, 1942, he was raised in Petaluma and was a life-long resident of Sonoma County. Billy lived fast and hard in the 60s and 70s eventually graduating from the school of hard knocks. In 1986 he became a member of the recovering community where he met his wife to be Martha. They married in 1987 and began a life with the birth of Catherine in 1988 and then in 1990 welcomed a son Ryan. Billy was an excellent journeyman painter for many years. Then in 1997, he became a counselor at the Santa Rosa Treatment Program, helping addicts. He worked there until a few weeks ago and had advanced to the position of Clinic Supervisor for the last six years. Said friend and co-worker Marla, "He loved the lost, the last, and the lonely and they felt it." Billy loved fishing, Warriors games, the Giants, gambling, afternoon naps, car rides, people and his cat Kitty (who he had a love/hate relationship with). But most of all, above all else, he loved his children with an adoration and pride that he wore like a badge. He leaves their hearts full with his complete love. His wit and sense of humor lives on thru them forever. They represent his best: his strength, his loyalty and his love without reservation. If you ever even met Billy, you can't help but smile at his memory and now shed a tear at the loss of this most unique individual - there will never be another Billy Ault. Billy spent his last few months fishing, winning at the casinos, eating - even sushi - driving with his children Caity and Ryan, Jay, Aimee and Sandy who he coveted as his own. Special thanks to Aimee, Samantha, Jay, Marla, Sandy and Lisa, Tila and Shellisa, Joe J, Joe, Eddie and his children, Arthur, Ava, Marlene, and Martha who kept a constant vigil and surrounded him in love and laughter as he sailed into the mystic. Brother to the late Terry Ault and Katie Brokloff. Brother-in-law to Greg Cassel (Elaine), and their children Garrett and Alice. Uncle of Kathleen Brokloff and Great Uncle to Catherine and Elizabeth Theriot, nephew Terry Ault and niece Marquitta Deandra. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Billy's life at a Memorial Service on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa. Billy was a good friend and he was a good Dad. He cared about people in an authentic way. The world is a better place because he was present in our lives. He had his shadow like we all do, but he owned it and did not project onto others. He was a good man and he will be missed.

I love you Billy. I can't believe you are gone. You blessed us with your humor, your caring and your desire to some times pretend you didn't care about anything while you cared about it all. Words can't express everything about your spirit and your impact on those around you. You might be blown away by the impact you had and STILL have on others.

It has been years since I last saw Billy. I was so shocked to open the newspaper and see his obituary. I attended the same school of hard knocks that Billy did many many years ago. I didn't even know you got married or had children, that's how long it has been. I can tell how proud you were of your children Billy! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers as you will definitely be missed Billy! You were a really good guy!

I was raised across the street from Billy, spent a lot of time with him and went to school with him. I called him Jake after hearing his middle name, Jacob used a few times by his Mom. She'd yell : "William Jacob Ault !" when she was frustrated (which happened a lot). Kate was a saint. Billy's sister "Katie" was wonderful beyond belief, she was so beautiful. Never saw Terry much.
Billy was smart, good looking and very cool before cool was cool. He was cheated out of a lot of his life by a system that didn't listen to people. I don't recall him ever being mean or rude to anyone. When I was in Vietnam, he lived in my bedroom for a while, my folks loved him like a son. Last time I saw Billy was at Northwood Golf Course, I just walked up behind him and said "Hey Jake" he turned around and that wonderful glow was in his eyes. He was a good and wonderful man.
This is one time that I can say it and mean it; there will never be another like him.

I lived across the street from him while we were growing up. The stories I could tell. Once when we were building a "duck blind" he accidentally hit me on the head with a double edged ax. I still have the scar. We hunted and fished all over Sonoma county, riding our bikes all over the county. We were "best buds"..

Your vibrant smile will be greatly missed. I will always miss your jokes that i never got, until hours later then would laugh and feel so gullible that i fell for them. May your rest in peace.
