After this weekend of attending Chris's funeral I felt compelled to post this. I went to the showing on Friday, and then his funeral mass on Saturday, He was the husband of Kathy Casey Moore's a classmate and longtime friend(in fact the entire Casey and Moore family are long-time dear friends from my LCC/Paddy Mac days). Chris passed way before his time of that terrible disease, Cancer, that is taking way too many good people too soon, but the family Celebrated His Life....I had then read online how Irish Funerals Can Teach Us About Celebrating Life. The Irish are well-known for their joy, belief in good luck, and uplifting spirits, especially when it comes to enjoying a party.
The most well-known is the Irish Wake. It used to be the custom in Celtic countries for mourners to keep watch or vigil over their dead until they were buried. It is in fact what the Casey-Moore family did at the cemetery, was just that. Almost as if Chris was still there amongst us as we sang songs that Chris used to sing, "Kansas City", that Ty Casey said that the only words he knew were "Kansas City"...lol.....We shouted OH-IO and sang Carmen Ohio. amongst others. Often the Irish Wake is a party, a true celebration of the life of a person, as friends and relatives gather about to eat, drink and share memories.
Tears vs. Laughter
Until modern times, Irish wake customs ran the gamut from profound grieving to what appeared to be rollicking good fun. There would be lots of food and plenty of drinks. People would come and socialize and remember the departed person's life.
This wasn't a time for tears to say the least; it was more of a party than a funeral. It was the traditional Irish way of celebrating one's life and ensuring that they had a good send off.....This is the Casey Family. They no doubt were and will be grieving profoundly for years to come for their tremendous loss. But they did and will continue to celebrate Christopher Moore and his legacy he left for his family, his wife, his daughters and his sons. Here's to you, Christopher Moore; Love you Kathy and the entire Casey-Moore family.

My deepest condolences to each of you. My childhood memories of Chris are some of my best. He was one of kind in his zest for life and his love for all. I regret our paths did not cross again later in life. He was fun to be around when he wasn't tackling me while playing pickup football with no pads. He will be missed. We will keep him and all of you in our prayers. Steve DeVita

My family and I live down the street from you. The day your husband passed when the evening came we noticed several people in the front yard. It looked to be a celebration of someone's life rather than mourning. This spoke volumes of the wonderful human being he must have been. And it warmed our hearts to see this. We are truly sorry for your loss of an amazing man!
