Constance Heck

CRIDERSVILLE — Constance J. Heck, age 93, of Cridersville, passed away 6:20 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018 at Otterbein-Cridersville. She was born March 4, 1924 on the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC to the late Marion Jerome Vernon and Mattie Jane Reavis McCarson. Upon the passing of her mother in 1931 at the age of seven, she and her sister Kay were raised at the Eliada Home in Asheville while her brother and stepsiblings were sent to live with relatives. She remained at Eliada until she reached the age of 18 when she moved to Norfolk, VA and then met and married Walter Boyer Howard April 21, 1946. She later married Wendell McRill Heck June 6, 1982 and he preceded her in death March 10, 1992.

Connie had been a first grade teacher at Spencerville for 24 years. She loved her kids and her family. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Heritage Herb Garden Club. Constance was a graduate of University of Akron and the University of Dayton where she had received her Master's degree. She formerly had been very active in church at Shawnee United Methodist, participating in the chancel choir and friendship circle.

Survivors include three sons: Timothy F. (Luana) Howard of Bridgeport, CT, Stanley C. (Cory Hansen) Howard of Goodyear, AZ and David A. (Terri Shiffer) Howard of Richmond, VA, six grandchildren and three grandchildren. Her sister Kathryn Braun, brother Vernon McCarson, half-brother Ralph McCarson and half-sisters Naomi Fisher and Mildred Grady, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends Friday, March 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, OH. The funeral will be Saturday, March 3 at 11am with Bryan Bucher officiating and burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery.
