LIMA -- Daniel Sims, If you're reading this, it means I've passed away in the presence of my loving family. I gave it my best but in the end, I ran out of time like we all do. During the last 8 years, I battled liver cancer when the doctors only gave me a year to live. And though the cancer finally got me, it never took my love of living away, not ever.
I lived a full life and a long one too! I did so many things, saw so many places, met so many interesting people, had such a love of learning, a love for animals and all living creatures.
I served my country as a medic in the United States Army during Viet Nam. 91A10 Med Corps, I was known as "The Professor" since I usually had the answer.I love and miss all my Army friends. After the war, I became a professional brick mason who could point to any number of buildings where I could actually say, "I built that". I was hired by Standard Oil , finishing in the top percentage of the class I attended, worked 18 years as a chemical operator at the chemical plant in Lima, where I retired.I made many friends throughout my careers whom I all love and will miss dearly.
Aloha, To the Cool family in Hawaii
I enjoyed the freedom of being a young man full of unbelievable adventure, and as I got older, the happiness of being a family man.
That's why leaving my loving family behind is the hardest part for me.
I will miss my son, Roman Sims. Through all of this, he was my rock but not before he was the center of my universe. Because of him, I was able to be the father I wanted to be. We had many trials and tribulations, we lived and learned together. Not only as a father and son, but as true friends. I love you Roman, more than you'll ever know.
I was also blessed with my darling daughter-in-law, Kayla Rumbaugh Sims, who spent countless hours taking care of me in my final days. I was so very lucky to have her in my life. So much kindness, so much laughter. I love you KK.
Thank you to all the Hospice aids and nurses, you are true angels of this world.
A big Thank you to Jackie and Beth from the VA we don't know what we would have done without you all we love you and thank you for everything! God bless you all!
Though we didn't make it, I'm very glad for the friendship of my former wife, Connie Sims. In the end, regret is something we don't have. Love you and stuff.
My mother, Doris Wood, and my father, Donald Pattenaud, preceded me in passing a very long time ago. They made me who I was, strong and independent. I also leave a brother behind, Eric Sims. I will miss you my brother. Growing up with you was an adventure of its own. Love you Grub.
To the Lombardo family and Frank thank you for the friendship and memories.
All my dogs and cats whom I considered friends and buddies, I Love you guys.
The big lesson in this life - live it the best you can. Stay in it for as long as you can. And be nice! Kindness goes a long way in this world. All that matters is love.
God bless you all!

Daniel always played legos and electronic baseball with me whenever he came over to our house when I was a kid. Everytime I drive by that building in Lima, I always look, because I know Daniel built it. Thank you Daniel.
