David Armer Obituary

WAPAKONETA — David H. Armer, 90, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021, with his wife and children at his side.

He was born December 25, 1930, in Springfield, Ohio to Benjamin Sr. and Phyllis (Gearhart) Armer, who preceded him in death, along with his siblings, George Armer, Libby Eichman, Ben Armer Jr., Charlotte Spees, Jean Campbell, and Donald Armer; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Parent and Dakota Rostorfer; and two son-in-laws, Michael Harrod and Michael Stutzman.

David was a 1949 graduate of Blume High School where he lettered in football, was a class officer and friend to all his classmates. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 through 1955 on the USS Sierra during the Korean War. During his military career, he traveled to Italy, Cuba, and the Philippines. He served as Cub Scout Master Pack 160 Troop 9. David coached and supported his children in their many activities. He was retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel in 1989 after 32 years.

On March 19, 1983, he married Marilyn (Kerr) Setters, who survives in Wapakoneta. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and attending the Auglaize County Fair.

David was the father of Pam (Eric) Flick of Lima, Ed (Becky) Armer of Green Bay, WI, Kathy (Chris) Wilkey of Troy, Angie (Jim) Allen of Olive Hill, KY, and Missie (Todd) Hollman of St. Marys, as well as Lynette Stutzman of Lima, Karen (Darrell) Spencer of Uniopolis, Gloria Harrod of Quincy, and Paul (Ronell) Setters, of Apache Junction, AZ. He was proud of his 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was an accomplished machinist and a gifted carpenter specializing in fine woodworking art and furniture. Over the years he made many cherished works of wood for his family and friends, winning ribbons at the Auglaize County Fair and the Good Sam Camping Club. He was also an avid gardener, even planting a vegetable garden at the age of 90. He loved his woodshop and was a fixer of all things.

He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Wapakoneta, Veterans of Foreign War Post 8445, and the Lucky Steer 'Lunch Club'. He traveled the country camping with the Moonwalker Sam's Chapter 68 camping club. He was an inspiration to and adored by his family and friends. His humor, wit, and wisdom will be missed by all. His contagious smile and great belly laugh was enjoyed by many.

Funeral Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church of Wapakoneta. Rev. Josh Tissot will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 8445.
