David McCluer Obituary

LIMA -- David Dean McCluer,76 of Lima, passed away April 26, 2023, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

David was born April 12, 1947 in Lima, to Herbert and Vivetta (Garver) McCluer, who preceded him in death.

On June 26, 2010, he married Cecily (Miller) Crider, who survives him in Lima.

Dave retired from Dana Corporation. He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, and a long-time volunteer at Lima Memorial Health System. He coached softball for many years, and enjoyed sports of all kinds. Golf was his special sport, and he loyally followed all Cleveland teams no matter what. Many, many hours were spent on his motorcycle. The last bike somehow automatically turned into an ice cream stand sometime during the ride. He was also a gifted woodworker. Dave had a tremendous sense of humor. Whether it was a practical joke, a made-up rhyming song, or a clever play on words, there was always laughter. He loved to cook and bake, and no one left the house without a bag of cookies. He worked hard, watched out for others, and devoted himself to his family.

In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by his children, Kelli (David) Singhaus, Emili McCluer and Matthew (Amy) McCluer; bonus children, John (Dani) Crider and Leah (Joshua Thomas) Crider; grandchildren, Kaitlin Singhaus, Lindsay Singhaus, Lauren Singhaus, Collin McCluer, Carson King, Carlie King, Alexa McCluer, Abbigail McCluer, Aaron Crider, Amanda (Marshall) Fletcher, and Ethan Crider; great-grandchildren, Brielle Faucett, Kasen Faucett, Oakley Singhaus, and a great-grandchild on the way; sisters, Debbie (Dick) Gresham and Beverly (Mike) Wilges; mother-in-law, Louise Miller; sisters-in-law, Connie McCluer, Cynthia McCluer, Lee Ellen Coffey, and Michele (John) Mosley; brother-in-law, Terry (Andrea) Miller, and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce McCluer; sisters, Shirley (Jim) McBeth, Sharon (Joe) Weldy, and Jackie (Al) Lyons, and his brothers, Lynn McCluer and Jimmy McCluer.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Shawnee United Methodist Church with Pastor Lori Reiber officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.

Friday mornings at Lima Memorial will never be the same! Dave always had a smile, a hug and a freshly baked treat for me! I could ALWAYS count on him to help with volunteer coverage as his dedication to our Auxiliary was evident and appreciated. May God bless his soul and bring much comfort to his family in the days ahead
