WESTMINSTER -- David S. Spees, Jr. age 49 of Westminster, went home to be with our Lord, June 18, 2022, at 4:25 p.m., in the emergency department of Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born July 13, 1972 in Lima, OH, to David and Mary Jane (Glassner) Spees, Sr. who survive in Spencerville. On April 9, 1994 he married Troisann Musselman who survives in Westminster.
He is also survived by his children: Kyle Spees of Westminster, Corey (Kendra) Spees of Westminster and Caitlyne Spees of Harrod; his granddaughter, Meena "Beans" Spees, and Meena's half-sister, Tali Mead-Smith; his sister Kristen Spees of Panama City, FL and his brother Adam (Megan) Spees of Lima; Troisann's parents, Bill & Sharon Musselman of Harrod, brother-in-law, Brian (Melanie) Musselman of Wapakoneta. He was an uncle to Jacob (fiancee Kelsi Piper) Musselman of IL, Danielle (Ryan) Bailey of Plain City, and Zac (Kayla) Musselman of Cridersville and a great-niece, Natalee Musselman, plus many aunts, uncles & cousins.
He had been an employee in the tool room at Honda of America, Anna. He graduated in 1991 from Bath High School and Apollo Career Center in tool and die making. As a volunteer firefighter for Westminster Rural Fire Department, he served as President & Vice-President. He was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He co-owned/operated Catt's Wagon food truck. He had a great smile and a contagious laugh. He gave the best and warmest bear hugs and was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved to go salmon fishing in Michigan with his father and brother. He also enjoyed going to auctions, camping, grillin', gardening, and loved spending time with his family. He was a very proud father of his children and all their accomplishments, including being a proud Army Dad, and loved being involved in such activities as driving the band instrument truck for Allen East Mustang Brass and Royale Blues show choir for three years. He was an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 162, Cridersville and assisted his youngest son with his Eagle Scout Project. They raised African freshwater fish and were members of the Ohio Cichlids Association. Together the family showed and raised rabbits through Bunny Boosters 4-H Club, attended ARBA State and National Shows, and were members of the following: American Rabbit Breeders Association, Lima Rabbit Breeders Association Club, Ohio Holland Lop Fanciers Club, Ohio State New Zealand Rabbit Breeders Association and Ohio State Rabbit Breeders Association.
Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2022 from 2-7 p.m. at the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services and again on Saturday, one hour before the service. His funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022 in the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Burkhart officiating. A celebration of life will follow the service by WRFD and surrounding fire departments. A dinner will immediately follow the service at Westminster United Methodist Church in the abbey.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Rural Fire Department.
