DONALD BOWERS
ELIDA — Donald H. Bowers, age 87, was called into the presence of the Lord at 7:46 am Saturday, December 10, 2016, at his home.
Don was born September 23, 1929 in Spencerville, to the late John Wesley and Mary Ellen (Brown) Bowers. On June 2, 1950 he married the love of his life, Gloria J. (Curl) Bowers who survives in Elida. They were married 66 wonderful years.
Don was a graduate of Shawnee High School. He retired from Westinghouse as a Manufacturing Engineer after 40 years. Don enjoyed wood working and was an avid wood carver. He was a member of the Lima Wood Carvers and was a dedicated member of Lima Baptist Temple Church. Don was a Godly man who loved telling stories, playing pranks and most of all loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was blessed with a family who loves him dearly, wife, Gloria J. (Curl) Bowers of Elida, his children, Don (Patty) Bowers of West Jefferson, Patti (Jim) Foster of Elida, Bill (Vickie) Bowers of Elida, Gerry (Teresa) Bowers of Hanover, IN and Mary (Rick) Kirkendall of Elida; grandchildren, Bryan (Brandi) Bowers, Holly (Mike) Armstrong, Katie (Steve Ballah) Bowers, Megan (Matt) Gulley, Charity (Brian) Hoffman, Gideon (Courtney) Foster, Adam Bowers, April (Gary) Clarke, Jacob (Lindsay) Bowers, Ethan (Amber) Bowers, Kelsey Kirkendall and Kierstin Kirkendall; Great-grandchildren, Sierra Bowers, Jenna Kellett, Fiona Armstrong, Miren Armstrong, Daniel Ballah, Zachary Bowers, Kristin Eldridge and Kurt Eldridge.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Foster, siblings, Sylvia (John) Richardson, Thelma Bowers, Thursey Bowers, Florence (Gerald Leatherman) Caywood, John Wesley (Eva) Bowers, Homer (Leota) Bowers, Helen (Chet) Zimmerman, Marjory (Claude) Page, Dale (Imogene) Bowers, Lois (Jim) Parlette and Robert (Eloris) Bowers.
Services will begin at 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Lima Baptist Temple, 982 Brower Road, Lima, Ohio 45901. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Hartford Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Baptist Temple or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
