EARL SPEARS
DELPHOS — Earl L. Spears, 88, of Delphos, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at his residence.
He was born January 1, 1928, in Taylorville, IL to Oatis and Ethel (Hunter) Spears. Both preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Cora (Paddock) Spears on October 18, 1952, and had spent 63 wonderful years together. Cora survives in Delphos.
He is survived by one son, Lindell (Susan) Spears of Delphos; two daughters, Sally (Joe) Martin of Delphos and Jeanette (Thomas) Simmons of Deer Park, TX; 10 Grandchildren, Amy Viney, Rachael Goergens, Brian Spears, Nichole Tobe, Bailey Paddock, Jared Simmons, Stephanie Ridgeway, Eric Martin, Tracey Ogle, and Bethany Colley; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Burnetta Hill of Taylorville, IL.
Earl was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Wetherington and nine brothers and sisters.
Earl was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Delphos. He started work for the railroad as a telegraph operator and retired as a clerk from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 36 years of faithful service. He loved to travel in his younger years and was a great person to read especially current events and National Geographic. He was a gentle, kind, and loving sole who used all these traits to become the great father that he was.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11:00 with calling one hour prior to the service at First Assembly of God Church in Delphos. Pastor Fred Rowe will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery with military Grave Rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Harter and Schier Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
