LIMA -- Edward 'Ed' Paul McGhee Sr., age 75, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 9:30 am, at the Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center. Ed was born August 18, 1948, in New London, CT, to Archie Luther and Janet Ruth (Brackett) McGhee who preceded him in death. On April 12, 1991, he married Marilyn Ellen (Meyer) McGhee who survives in Lima.
In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his mother, Janet Ruth McGhee of Milford, DE, a daughter, Sharon Lynn (Cleveland) Walden of Bellefontaine, OH, a step-son, Justin (Ashley) Rifenburg of Knoxville, TN, 2 grandchildren: Christopher Walden and Aiden Rifenburg, siblings: Robert McGhee of North East, MD, Cindy (John) Horsman of Milford, DE, Kathy (Skip) Miller of North East, MD, Sandy McGhee of Milford, DE, Jerry McGhee of Virginia Beach, VA and a brother in-law, Tad Takeuchi of Newtown, PA.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Paul McGhee Jr., a daughter, Vickie Lynn Hollingsworth and a sister, Ginni Takeuchi.
Ed had a BA in pre-law history and was a certified paralegal. He had worked back east and in Ohio as a certified police officer retiring from the Cairo Police Department in 1996. Ed was a member of the Berean Bible Baptist Church. He enjoyed calligraphy and martial arts, where he earned 3rd degree brown belts in Tae Kon Do and Kempo.
There will be a funeral service held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 12 noon at the Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Charles Dupree. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Friends may visit on Monday from 10 am until the time of the service at the Shawnee Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Berean Bible Baptist Church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.tln.

Mr. McGhee Was A Law Enforcement Legend, Having Served With Cairo PD, Beaverdam PD, Logan County Sheriffs Office And More. I Spoke With Him Once And He Was A Wealth Of Knowledge, His Wife Was Also An Officer. Prayers For The Family And Friends. His Name Came Up In Conversation The Other Day, Unfortunately I Found Out He Passed.
